Lol so I guess there's a bunch of factors to consider xD I know for a fact there's huge grows in my city and one that stuck out to me was a full house grow, every room full with over 500 mature plants total(they were stealing power from neighbors for months) and the cops only came around because of a welfare call, saw plants, came back with a warrant and raided. As far as I know they growers were never caught tho :D lol

He was cute in the beginning now with a wall of comments no more sticking points to hold on too.
My power company has been to my house years ago asking about "power surges" whatever that meant. I took my shit down. I have seen articles in the local paper where the company was asked about illegal grows and they said they would gladly cooperate with law enforcement in anyway possible. I been growing off and on for 40 yrs and haven't been busted. You guys believe what you want, me,I'll stay paranoid.

Neither of which mean anything. A power surge is a power surge.

Of course they will cooperate if people are stealing power. They aren't just ratting people out though.

I'm not in a legal state. Never been legal.

I didn't say it meant anything, but it rattles you when the company comes snooping around. Here they will rat you out in a heartbeat.

Pay your bill on time and keep the account 0'd and you will never see an energy worker.

Don't flood your neighborhood with RFI and you will never see a cable RFI team looking for you. They will not enter your property without consent, they will just put a trap on the line to stop the ingress into their closed system.

Don't steal power (duh).

You act like none of us have dealt with these people. I had an RFI team after me before. Cease the issue and you don't piss them off to report non compliance to FCC which sends locals knocking.

I have been doing this since 91. I started in a 0 tolerance state and still pulled bud without any of the things you are clinging too as points.

In the end it's about haves and have nots.

Pay your bill, don't be obviously over flashy, keep the traffic low, be neighborly etc you won't have issues.

70 fuxin posts from various sources and all I see is "they will rat you out... "

I m really starting to feel like this is just troll action at this point.

Thanks for coming out, God bless and good night.

Try having the cops knocking in your door standing 50 foot from your exhaust.

I've had it happen three times in the last couple years. Never for me. One time it was the neighbors fighting and the cops parked in my drive way and knocked on the door to ask if we heard anything.

Once because one neighbor gave another neighbor their Wi-Fi password and the woman was sitting on the side of the road to get signal. A driver called 911 and said someone was laying in a ditch. They knocked and asked about it.

A third time looking to serve a warrant for another neighbor.

Gas man came out with a thing looking for a leak.

The insurance man wanted to take pics of the house.

Shit happens. You never know what weird or random thing can happen.

I had the power go out on a grow where I was growing some deep cheese from dinafem. Ill never grow it again. It was the smelliest strain I ever grew. Needed double filters.

Anyways after about an hour the whole house reeked. It started to smell outside. I keep a couple deep cycle batteries and inverter to run my scrubber in a power outage.

All of this is a risk growers take.

Stop trolling then, I already take all the precautions you mention and still had the power people out.

What a timely thread. I just got a notice from my power company saying they are upgrading all meters in my county to smart meters. I honestly feel sick over it. They do give you the choice to opt out. You call a number and fill out a form and have to pay a $10/mo meter reading fee because they have to send a meter reader out.

I am seriously considering opting out, but would that be a red flag and draw suspicion?
Or is it better to maintain privacy and not have my power signature profile in their hands?

If they give you an option to opt out I'd do it for sure and pay the $10 a month. and wouldn't think it'd throw any flags choosing an option they gave you in the first place. Most of the time they don't say shit and install one. At least at the houses I've been in lol

Yeah I'm gonna opt out for sure, and if they ask any questions I'll just tell them that I don't want anything on their grid that's hackable (I've read that these smart meters are vulnerable to hacks).

Wow that's crazy, they just installed a meter without telling you or giving you any say in it? That's very Big Brotherish.
Makes me wish I could afford solar and be totally off the grid

Its no big deal really. Just a bunch of paranoia.

Follow some simple rules.

Do they have to mess with the fuse panels to change to smart meters?

The reason I ask is my whole setup is inside the room with the fuse panel..

As long as your meter socket is located on the outside, they literally won't need to come inside. Some older houses used to have meter sockets in the basement.

^ This is some of the best advice I've seen on here. I did a face palm after reading this. I've been so focused on getting my first grow dialed in that I haven't once thought about a loss of electricity. Especially with all the crazy weather going on these days.

Aside from hurricanes, any big enough storm can knock out power for 1+ days. There's other random stuff too construction workers hitting lines, vehicle vs pole, wildlife, etc.

People often take for granted what goes into making that light switch come on every time. It doesn't take much to disrupt that.

I've recently installed an auto back up 22kw system for my whole estate, including the separated grow building.
After losing power the first time I bought two 10k portable systems and had plugs installed on the meters. in the middle of the night, snow, rain....this proved to suck. I feel really good about my upgrade these days. I've lost power for weeks just a few yrs ago.
