I noticed today that Yulia Lipnitskaya is being criticized for purposely tugging on peeps' heart strings by using music from Schindler's List in conjunction with a red coat. Yeah, plus she skated real good.

For the past several evenings, I have noticed something called curling. For those that have never heard of this game, it involves 3 people...one to push a large disk and 2 more providing advanced janitorial duties with little brooms to direct the disk down the ice.
When I first saw this, I figured it had to have been invented by some bored Eskimo. So I looked it up, turns out the Scots originally created it back in the 16th century...most likely after a few too many in the local pub.
How it became an Olympic event remains a mystery.

Curling is the one "sport" that actually discourages the typical frenzy that comes from a spectator sport, cheering and booing are considered poor etiquette and any celebration is reserved for the end of the game. It is completely unacceptable to attempt to throw opposing players off their game by way of negative comment, distraction or heckling.
It does require a great deal of skill though, it's not as easy as it seems.

How can golf be considered a sport?. If one practices enough, he or she can have a bowling pin shaped body and still succeed.

Being Canadian it does make me proud when they win, but to be honest the talent pool we've got to choose from it puts us in a odd light. We're expected to win, we have more NHL players the any other country {save for maybe the US} and when we don't win you've got shake you head and ask how that happened. That's why I like hockey because no matter how much talent you have, it takes a team effort to win, even when your team is stacked with talented individuals it's the guys that play as a team that win.Canada just beat Finland in Men's hockey.

I agree with you, there are some events at the Olympics that makes one wonder what actually is "sport", when meeting the requirements of being consider an Olympian.

Canada still owns the NHL that I love, 50% to the US 25%...rest of course from Europe/Asia

I couldn't help but feel kind of bad about the people who designed the American speed skating suit as the US speed skater team flamed out. They must have known that these skaters were going to blame them. And all this time they had been working hard to help the skaters succeed. I hadda wonder what they felt when the team bailed on the suits. I think if I were one of them I would have rooted against them. Not only because they threw me under the bus but to protect my job. I think I would have liked to have been with them watching the results. Don't worry guys. Your jobs are safe and you'll be working with a whole new set of skaters soon.
