sorry for hijacking ur thread SCRANNY, but i think u could learn some from miss hester also i think it would be worth comparing progress and yields etc, if you keep yours on 24/0 that is.. miss i noticed you setoff a few plants do you have any of the same age as scranny's?

Sorry...thought I had answered that question before but then I checked and I hadn't. Yes, I'm keeping it on a 24/0 light diet.

This seed was planted 8/19, and first came through the soil on 8/20.

Yeah...it's my first grow that's gotten past the seedling stage...mainly because all my other grows were either eaten by animals or bugs, or uprooted by my parents...but now my parents are cool with it, and I don't have to worry about animals and bugs indoors.

I know...I know...more plants = more opportunities to have a female...but at the moment, I can only take care of one at a time. When I have more resources I'll be able to grow multiple plants at the same time.

Is that why you ask?

I was just asking because it would suck to go through all that effort just to get a male. There is another thread where a guy only grew 2 and they were both male. He is really bummed I'm sure and I'd hate to see that happen to anyone else.

Eh, at this point, I'm just trying to see if I can keep a plant alive long enough to see whether it will be a male or female.

It's an indoor grow (for the most part), remember? If it fails, I don't have to wait for nature to tell me when to try again! lol

it's really easy to start a medium sized indoor grow though. you can just germinate them like you have with one big florescent light (I let the seeds soak in water until they crack open then I transfer them to soil.) it's just worth it to make sure there aren't any males. and if you're parents are cool with it, I see no reason why you can't scrounge up the recourses to have a decent way to grow your plants indoors.

you don't need anything amazing, you just need to tweak it until you find something that works.

Eh, my mom's cool with it...heck, she's growing 4 plants herself, treating them like regular houseplants! She doesn't smoke, but she likes taking care of plants, and she said she especially likes growing HER plants because she can see the growth each day and she finds it fascinating. She even said if any of hers happen to turn out female that she'll let me harvest it when the time comes! I figure that's not so bad...

...my dad, on the other hand, isn't so fond of it all. He's paranoid about people coming over and seeing the plants, so my mom agreed to keep hers in her closet (one of the walls of the closet is nothing but a floor-to-ceiling window), and I agreed to keep mine in my closet.

My brother and I are conspiring to move in to a house together. From there, we can grow plenty, but for now...I'm working within my limitations.

when it gets a bit bigger you can cut off the bottom 2 nodes, stick them in rockwool and put em under a light on 12/12 in approx 2 weeks they will show sex.
that way you can see if its female whilst its still vegging.

Well I upgraded the grow room today by replacing that blown circular fluorescent tube (now have a 32w AND a 22w ring above the plant). I also bought 2 plug-in lamps (each using 6500k 26w -- 100w equivalent -- CFL bulbs).

I'll post pics in about an hour when I turn the lights back on. BTW my schedule is now 20/4, and it's been that way since 9/6/08. So now my light schedule for each day is:

8 am - 4 pm == SUNLIGHT
4 pm - 8pm == DARKNESS
8pm - 8am == GROW ROOM

Well, they just went to sleep for the next 4 hours.

Now I have my system set up with the weak flourescent tubes above the plant, and the two strong flourescent lamps to the left and right of the plant.

I left the plant in the light yesterday (from 8:30 pm yesterday until about 3:30pm today), and when I came back to it, it looked like it 3 days had passed in those 19 hours! The only problem is this:

As you can see in the pictures, the branches grew curved toward the ground, and there's a surge of purple-ish running through the stalk and branches. The leaves are doing fine...just one negligible yellow spot...but the coloration of the stalk and branches is scaring me.

What do you think could be causing my upper branches to curve down? I'm guessing the plant is trying to bend itself to be able to accept the stronger light shining on it from the side, but I'm no professional.

Also, what do you guys think could be the cause of the coloration in the stalk and branches?

BTW...if the "side lights theory" is the reason why the upper branches curved down (to position the leaves so they could get the most light), the effect might've been increased due to the fact that she didn't get her sunlight (8am thru 4pm) and instead got "side light".

the sun is the least of ur worries, unless you've cheked it out i would be a bit worried for the chchchoppers, where i'm at outdoor is a rarity, make sure to keep em with some other foliage or sometin to keep em guessin

Purple tinges etc are also characterristics of some strains, but most peoples purpling worries tend to be Mg def.

If the Mg doesnt get rid of the purple, then try upping the Phos dose..
Phos Def often shows with purpling of the stems,leaf stems and veins, and will often also display signs of stunted growth...
Plants with a Phos Def also have smaller leaves that are dark green, that often get necrotic patches..

I think I have a phosphorus defiency, what do you guys think?

You dont seem to have any type of Nutrient Deficeincy. If anything, a small dosage of Nitrogen will make them a little darker color.

If you can get more lights, two CFL's wont cut it for flowering. Doin good so far, dont do anything with nutes until you see Definate signs of deficiencys.

Lots of noob growers overdose the nutes, you will know when you need to give them nutes. They look a little heat stressed possibly.

You could take off the reflectors and make the sides of the CFLs facing the plant, the sides give off much more surface area and Lumens than head on. Especially when only using two bulbs.

Keep veggging for another 1.5 months
