PHOENIX -- Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is facing a misdemeanor charge for his alleged role in a hit-and-run.
The Phoenix Police Department announced on Wednesday that Horne has been cited for leaving the scene of a collision/unattended vehicle.
The case is being forwarded to the City of Phoenix Municipal Court for disposition.
The incident in question took place this past March near downtown Phoenix.
Horne has said that he was backing out of a parking space when he struck another vehicle’s bumper.
Horne claimed that he didn’t see any damage, so he didn’t leave his contact information for the owner of the other vehicle.
On Wednesday, Horne said that he’s happy to pay for any damage caused.
“Today I have received from the Phoenix Police Department a misdemeanor citation alleging that I apparently caused minor paint damage to the bumper of an unattended parked vehicle while leaving a parking lot on March 27, 2012. I first learned of my possible involvement in this incident several months ago, and requested from investigating authorities the name of the owner of the vehicle so I could immediately pay for any damage I may have caused," said Horne. "For some unknown reason I received no response. Hopefully, I can now obtain this information or the owner will contact me so I can pay for any damage that I may have unknowingly caused.”
Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery has not discussed any details about the case except for saying that the hit-and-run was discovered during an FBI investigation into possible campaign finance violations by Horne.
