wow, interesting thread....yeah I topped a LEGGY ass headband phenol, got outta control on me, about 2 weeks into flower, even had the hairs everwhere, she did fine and actually has 4 nice tops now! not IDEAL, but it worked, and it shortened the plant significantly.

I would top during veg like I would believe everyone else would do according to books, videos, comments from other old time growers, etc..... If you got a flower going on, why would you want to hack it off ? Some people would be worried about stress, but could you really stress it out when a plant is already flowering? I'm not sure, but I do know someone that tried to re-veg 2 favorites a few years ago. He had left a few very small branches on the bottom of the plants and switched lights back to 24 and fed with a higher nitrogen fertilizer ratio. They started coming around growing new leaves and small limb . Would you call this re-vegging ? I guess it all depends on why you would want to top in flowering to begin with.... But I got to hand it to you Bro... your thinking of some neat shit. If you do decide to try it, please keep me posted because I would be very interested in the end results and smoke quality.

Stretch, take advantages of it. Take advantages of the growth spurt. Topping young gives you a very bushy plant at a young age I find. Makes it hard to get light to. Just personal preference. I should have worded it more of a personal thing I do. I find you can achieve the same results of nodes this way stretched out into the light, and during veg your not having to deal with a lot of growth shoots and leaves and recovery time. Call me crazy. Ill stop if someone can convince me.

I LST the shit out of them during veg, but rarely chop as to slow growth. Achieve the shape I want, then when I flip I chop, she hates it. Recovers, and shoots up. And the light is just blaring down on these colas.

NOTE - Im trying to pack up and get the fuck outta dodge here that's why im flowering these things now. its gonna be shit. I know. But once its done ill be doing a big RDWC project.

In case it wasn;t clear I was being hella sarcastic with my first post. I don't chop during flower, if I do its within the first week but its not ideal. Some will take it, but like my LA is very unhappy about it. 2 days later it hasn't recovered... Purple kush... loves it. Experiment! I then noticed their was some insight into my bs. So.. where the hell was I. Do I top or not. How about I post back as I just topped all my plants 9 days into flower, and see what we get? bounce, bounce, bounce.

I see that this is an old post.. NO ONE followed through on their word to post progress..
**Plain and simple ***
TOPPING IN THE FIRST WEEK OF FLOWER IS FINE (HELPS TO LEVEL OUT YOUR CANOPY) ANY TOPPING AFTER THE FIRST WEEK OF FLOWER IS RISKY *NOT BECAUSE IT WILL REDUCE YOUR YIELD BUT BECAUSE THE STRESS AND RESOURCING OF ENERGY CAN CAUSE HERMES)

Can you top a plant while its flowering...or is it better to do during veg? Thanks.
I am going for it right now with my Oldest she is on 12/12 now 3 days topping her today, I have a good feeling by watching her grow and getting to understand her , that she will have both new shoots up with flower by end of Flower week 3

You should also grab a vacuum and clean too while you’re at it.

Topping during flowering will leave you with well pretty much the same thing below the cut as you would of had without topping. During flower the plant is pretty much locked in. Anyone who suggests you top during flower don't want to be the only ones who jacked all there hard work. There is not going to be any explosion in growth as YOUR IN FLOWER and the plant has quit that and focused on producing the flowers it has. Top in veg you'll end up with loads of nice bud. Top in flower and you'll end up with jack crap. You all can call me stupid but in 30+ years of growing a flowering plants that looses it's top is crap.
