YAY!!!
I've checked-over the entire plant today with a 30X Jewelers Loupe, and i have two single amber trichomes.
Ain't gonna be long, now, boys.
lmao
Sounds like we are at about the same point based on trichome colour, now just need the rain to stay away.

Lots of folks hate on MG. EVERY time it comes up in a thread, someone jumps on it. Gets old.

Also, depending on soil, you need to supplement with calmag if using MG nutes…so basically, any of the popular peat-based growing media like Promix HP/BX, etc. You will have deficiencies if you don’t supplement using these soils.
It's the slow release nitrogen in MG people hate. They hate it because they don't understand it. Me personally, outdoors, I don't use anything other than my organic soil. I let nature do its thing and I never have burnt tips and my plants stay green to the end. I don't grow for profit, I grow for my use only. And I like the full flavor of all natural vs 10 different strains that taste the same because of fertilizer. Also I notice the high doesn't last long with fertilized bud.

I work making granular fertilizers. I work with crn/srn,(slow release urea/nitrogen). It's very easy to use too much and end up having extended time release of too much N which will cause problems. A little goes a long way. Here's two of my organics this year.

You make a very interesting point. Artificial fertilizers probably do have some sort of impact on the plant's production of terpenes.

So to get around your issue, you're saying that i should be using a different type of artificial fertilizer on each strain?
: p

I hear's ya. I plan on going 100% organic, with lots of leaf compost and green manure tea next season.

I used milorganite on an indoor grow I had since being in a pot is different than soil and you'll most likely have to use fertilizer. 6-4-0 is the npk. Here Is what I kept from that harvest. Really decent for just using milorganite it's slow release, non burning and iron rich. supposedly organic but I think it's made from human wasteIMG_20210227_184557848.jpgIMG_20210227_184631222.jpg

really? what total F'n pricks! What region are you in? so i know not to move there.

i go out late at night and dress up in dark clothing and wear a hat and put on a mask so that I'm inconspicuous and no one notices me.

awesome. where you getting that from? you live on or by a farm?

hey, you're as old as i am, then. <two thumbs up>
debating on getting one myself. what model did you buy?

i don't have a rear-bag mower, so i just dump the leaves in the bins. but i saw my neighbor use the suck and bag option one day on his leaf blower (what a puss, i said to myself), and then i grabbed some bags directly across the street where that neighbor did the same thing, and the leaves inside the bag were perfectly shredded. so i tried it with my blower, and now I'm a puss too.
At the time a city in Eastern Oregon. I don't actually have a shredder as I do a five foot pto mower. Its just easier to say shredder. People will give you moldy hay. Or they should. I guess you use what's there. I live in the middle of a large, corporate family farm. I was the managing partner. Now it's all changing. I was replaced by three nephews. And they are go getters. I'm a stoner.

So where do you look? Do you expect to see right up on the top first, right? And just the buds. No looking at leaves? And will you harvest just the top half or third first?

As more of these breeders come out with these delicious, potent strains I've kind of drifted into longer term outdoor flower period cultivars. Should be going the other way.

It was meant as a joke. If you think that i was able to detect 2 amber trichomes amongst 2 billion trichomes, then you're smoking some really good shit.

PS. It was 2 amber and 2,000,000,107 cloudy, if you want the actual count.

Yes, I get that. But when you loup it where do you look. All parts of the plant are at different stages. Outdoors the top half to the south will be different from the bottom to the north. I really don't use the loup that much. I walk out in the garden, look at a plant, and think, "it's last week of October, rain is forecast, and you just look ready. Or not". That's why I put the part in there about how I need to focus more on quicker plants. Cause it isn't the plants fault. It's my fault for selecting a cultivar that takes too long.

I hear you on everything.

A lot of times I 'make light' of the situation, and a lot of those times i use a more in-your-face or scacastic approach to point out the futility of the objective(s) that people are trying to achieve. They don't seem to get it that i get it. And mostly it's probably because trichomes are such a new field, so very little is known about this subject at the present time.

However, ive been reading articles and scoping trichomes this whole year, throughout their various stages, and i find them not only incredibly fascinating, but i firmly believe that, if done correctly, and by yourself, that trichome colour can play a major role in determining "your" perfect harvest time.

And to your point about where I'm reading on the plant, im in full agreement. There is no one good point, and in reality, if one where to scientifically come up with a more accepted rating system, then measurements would have to be averaged across multiple, universally accepted points. There's no argument there, and I'm certainly not trying to advocate any of my methods, here.

There is, however, a correlation between clear <> amber <> cloudy ratios AND, let's call it "Quality". And you can define quality however you want (headstone, flavor, couch-lock or energetic high, aroma, etc.). I really don't care. It's up to me to decide and experiment by taking different samples at different ratio stages (which i have been doing) and them comparing them all so that i know (or find out) what ratio it is that that i like. I can then use that ratio - that i have done all my own legwork on - as a very good general guideline to know when to harvest the plant the next year.

Most ppl are saying that a higher amber to cloudy ratio is the perfect time to harvest, which gives you the perfect balance of stone and all the other esthetic attributes. Who knows? Maybe they're right. But, i may end up testing the mutiple harvests, and after all is said and done, absolutely F'n hate the high with the very high amber ratio, and really like the 50% clear to 50% cloudy ratio, or maybe even the 100 %Clear, which, btw, no one seem to be testing or trying.

It's therefore up to me to decide - no one else, 'cause in this case, i don't give a damn about anyone else's opinion, it's my plants and my high.

To your quedtion: I'm therefore loupe'ing the top, choice buds (the entire bud), up to twice a day, sometimes, and just making notes and taking pictures. I then arbitrarily decide when enough of a ratio has changed from the previous stage that i labeled, and then arbitrarily labele that new stage, again (20٪ amber, for example). At this point i cut one whole stem, physically label it and it goes off into the drying and curing process. I then just repeat this process as long as i can before frost hits, and then that's as far as you can go.

My loupe'ing and scoping and analyzing, therefore, only means anything to me. At some point in the future, when I've collected a few years of data, and someone has done exactly the same with their plants, then we can sit down and compare notes. And if enough people do this, we eventually come to some sort of consensus, that can be used by everyone, as a reasonably accurate guideline to determine when it's time to harvest your plant - using trichome ratios.

Right now, reading a lot in this forum, about using trichomes to establish harvest time, i see that this practice is still in its infancy.

I'm therefore just opening up and including the trichome/harvest topic, here-and-there, to see what other people think.

I'm also trying to enlighten and encourage others that they can do the same, and therefore become more acquainted with the different, and possibly wonderful qualities of their own grow, and not just read and believe what others say all the time.

Well, it's only supposed to be light rain 'till Tuesday, so i didn't barricade it this time as i did a few weeks back when we had the downpours.

Next year I'll have four plants. Don't know what I'm gonna do then.
