When it comes to funk, I think it would be remiss to not mention Bernie Worrell. He was a genius, a child prodigy he started taking piano lessons when he was three and wrote a concerto at age eight. He went to Juilliard and graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music. He was a brilliant keyboardist his weapon of choice was the Moog synthesizer, which is extremely difficult to play. The Moog was created by Bob Moog, Bernie was the second person, ever, to receive a Moog synthesizer. A fascinating person, a genius amongst geniuses. If you really want to learn about him this is an excellent documentary,
. If you just want to hear what the Bernie Moog sound was listen to a couple of examples.
