I cant believe the 4th guy was trying to bargain for ammo with the capt of the ship.I'm not sure if they can reuse the SR 195 rounds that went through the heads of the pirate's but a trade is a trade.

the government is just pissed at the pirates for opening up bussiness and running compatition with them.
they are both pirates that steal. one not better than the other in my opinion.

in WWII we welded guns to our merchant ships going accross the pond to england.
i was thinking about this pirate problem and i decided it isn't a very big one.
except for the fact that some of these guys cary RPG-7s they aren't a real threat to most vessels.
they are untrained, underfed and ill informed. The main problem is that they blend in so well with civillian fishing fleets.
It would take an enourmous effort to identify and track wich vessels are pirate.
We could adapt our gulf coast drug interdiction strategies to fit this problem, but again at enormous cost and effort.
Once our navy is able to put a proper hurting on these assholes WHILE they are attacking a ship, then they will begin to feel the fear they should be, but arent feeling when they see a US flag.
we have marines in Djibouti that would be more than happy to grease these fools once we find out where they lay their heads.
That is my bet. They marines again taking out pirates in africa, they will be happy to.

I know its been said before, but if they don't have any place to lay their head then they wouldn't be so eager to keep grabbing ships - they wouldn't have any place to go. An earthquake took out Port Royal, but after fair warning we should start stratigically removing their home ports - not cities, just the water front. After the next attack on a US asset we determine which port the "Mother" vessel is out of and simply remove the waterfront facilities. Etc...
I'm sure it's never going to happen, but just head shoots a few dirtbags we are simply "Topping" the plant & more will shoot up to replace them. Go for the Roots.

I was reading where these "pirates", some of which have never been on boat in their life, spend days at sea looking for a ship to hijack. they then pull along side the ship and throw a hook with a rope on the ship and 1 guy climbs on board and makes the crew put the ladder down for the others.
I am no expert on pirate fighting, but I'm thinking you could keep these guys off your ship with potato guns...

Don't they have fire hoses on those ships? Couldn't they just blast them off the side with the fire hose?

I thought this myself, but apparently ports won't let armed ships dock.
