Your cost does not go up at all of you pay twice as many people the same amount for shorter periods of time. France has one of the best economies/work forces on the planet. They get paid more than enough to live and have more forced vacation days than I think anywhere else in the world. They also subsidize cheese and wine because they think every citizen should be able to afford cheese and wine lol. Are they failing because everyone is getting paid enough to live? But there would be no jobs.
To give a person a dollar an hour raise it costs over $2000.00 per year. In the laundrymat example we have had previously to go from 10.50 - 15.00 is over $9,0000 per year per employee. If there were 10 employees it adds over $90,0000 in costs to that business. That business may not make $90,000 per year and even if it made more than that the resulting costs might have the owner making less than minimum wage.
So the store would close and there would be 10 more people looking for the jobs that no longer existed... You keep talking about people working 2 -3 jobs but the jobs would not be available. So, what would they do now?
If those 10 stores failed. More successful stores would open in their place. There is a ton of money and necessity for work in the economy. The fact that everyone is fighting over laundromat jobs is a totally different problem. We need more skilled workers.
If a company cannot afford to pay its employees a liveable wage, that business should fail.
I dont think the American car companies should have gotten bailed out either. That would have initially cost a ton of jobs. But then better car companies would open up shop and the jobs available would be better.
