While this is no doubt accurate, it remains true that Putin and his cronies are greedily feasting at the trough of Mother Russia, while leaving his People to starve. He's a modern day Tzar, with just as few scruples.

We could use some improvement, it's a 'ratings chase' now instead of a public service like it once was when I was growing up.
But in Russia, I don't think they're chasing ratings. The government shapes the news there.
Here, we ask leaders tough questions. The MAGA system is, if they don't like the questions, they scream 'fake news' and deflect with more fake news to try to shape opinion.
Did they learn that from watching Russian news services?

I'm not sexist; maybe you are since you're bringing it up so much.
Since you asked; Mrs Merkel doesn't seem to be doing such a good job keeping the Eurozone together and thriving at the moment. They're currently headed for their own banking crisis at a breakneck pace and Merkel's austerity programs (for others of course, not Germany) are making things worse.
Putin, for better or worse, is reassembling the Soviet Union and modernizing his military, both things the West- Merkel included- seem to be unable or unwilling to stop.
I'm not a fan of the things Mr Putin is doing or the way he's doing them, but it never pays to underestimate or ignore the accomplishments of your enemies.

Merkel is playing within the confines of good global stewardship while Putin has turned russia into a self-serving (yet unsustainable) organized crime organization and he's smarter than Merkel. Are you really nutty enough to believe that? Wow. Just wow
