I always thank the guys who take our trash, in the summer we keep a cooler out with ice and soft drinks for them. It doesn't bother me that we also are paying for the service, whats important is that it helps those guys. Ambulance services and other emergency services are also important. It is nice to have things like that and my wife and I don't mind paying our way. Amazing that some do. They must like to work for free or something

After a very deep deco dive I did a few months back to haul some garbage off a reef in Bohol where it's caught by current, I was carrying this huge mesh bag of trash off the boat and some of the locals saw me. You'd think I was a national hero the way they were treating us. When an entire island's inhabitants are keenly aware of what is being pulled out of the sea because every meal includes fish, even the smallest children deeply appreciate it. None of their money ever becomes my salary. I clean the ocean because I I have the skills to do so and love doing it but at least they see it and if I ever had trouble there, I would easily find help. One fisherman even thanked me because he saw a dolphin for the first time in a while , as if I brought dolphins back to Bohol.

These antisocial parasites who act like taxation is slavery are literally the opposite. The people who keep the environment clean have a huge impact on daily life and your gesture is appropriate. That trash collector does more to improve your community than almost anyone. His efforts even improve the value of your property, making you wealthier.

I do have plenty of ways to make money diving in the Philippines but when there aren't many clients we're building aquatic habitat, cultivating heat resistant strains of coral and pulling trash out of the sea. People with a strong sense of community definitely appreciate it.

They're not as liberal as they want you to think they are. In spite of the name, they aren't publicly funded (anymore, thanks Republicans!) and do not want to drive off their corporate sponsors, including Boeing and the Koch brothers. Seriously.
