I see what you are saying, but I think that their participation was critical. The Russians have many decades of manipulating, lying and undermining progress using uneducated sheep-people. They brilliantly leveraged this onto our society once the internet paved a way into the minds of our poor crackers. We have always had this type of people here, but they have been suppressed in most places since the 1960s. Once they could connect with each other and share the racist and hateful thoughts on the internet that they could not share in polite society, they became a political movement again.

The majority that voted for Trump may not have been swayed by it, but the suppression campaign in the Arabic and African American communities was very real and did affect the outcome in Michigan.

Yes, propaganda was used by right wing economic elites to take advantage of the racism and fear of the middle and lower classes that was already present among the white majority. I think we are both right on this one. The only difference is which was the greater effect -- systemic and persistent racism or propaganda. By flipping the right combination of switches in our electorate they might be able to really pick some horrible candidates and get them elected.

So this morning Trump was asked if he had any second thoughts on escalating the trade war. He answered that he did and said "I have second thoughts and n everything".

The White House press agency just clarified this and said that he regrets not making tariffs higher on China - something he could easily do now.
