The president told reporters that he continues to favor an unproven combination of drugs as a treatment for COVID-19 because he wants to keep people from using ventilators.

resident Donald Trump on Saturday said the unproven drug combination he has referred to as a coronavirus treatment could be preferable to placing Americans suffering from COVID-19 on any of the 10,000 ventilators states have requested from a federal stockpile.

Trump, who has no medical training, has for several weeks mentioned a combination of an anti-malaria drug, hydroxychloroquine, and azithromycin as a potential cure for the virus that the World Health Organization has classified as a global pandemic.


While there are a number of ongoing clinical trials testing the efficacy of those and other medications to see if any will be effective against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, medical experts have cautioned against the use of any drug therapies that have not been proven to work in a controlled trial.

On Friday, the federal government's top virologist, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci, specifically warned what further studies are needed to determine whether the drugs touted by the president will work against COVID-19

"We still need to do the definitive studies to determine whether any intervention, not just this one, is truly safe and effective," Fauci said during an appearance on Fox News.

But during Saturday's White House press briefing, Trump stepped up to the microphone unprompted to reference the drug combination again just moments after Fauci addressed a reporter's question about the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths expected this coming week.

how soon will they know that having covid makes you immune to it the next time? i thought i read there are 8 "varieties" of covid 19 around the world. If I got variety A, am I immune to variety F? thoughts?

I saw a nurse using ink on her hands to demonstrate how often we touch our faces, her face was blue all over in no time. Mindfulness is the only thing I can think of that would help a person not to, but nobody is mindful all the time, lots of other stuff is going on too.

I Don’t know details. I did not known that there are 8 varieties , that is crazy. That complicates matters. Wish I could give you some good news but this entire ordeal is a mystery in so many ways as Dr. Fauci has admitted he doesn’t even understand this Virus, which makes things so scary. I know the numbers of everything are not accurate. Not enough Testing at all. Now Covid 19 is known to cause never seen before clotting causing strokes and heart attacks and is creating associations with so many deaths. No one knows enough about it at this point. People with no health problems are dying . It does not fit the classical patterns. Hopefully there will be some clarification and understanding very soon. I am very disgusted at this point and feel completely betrayed and upset that our leaders are so stupid and have let this become the slowest and most ill prepared health crisis. We will never know for certain how many deaths were associated with this Virus. For instance the cancer patients that we see here at my facility who are going into hospice now and are dying daily , yes they had Cancer but are they dying because of the Cancer getting them or is it because they had gotten the Covid 19. I doubt they will autopsy the Cancer patients to figure that out. They will just call it complications to Cancer. This is just out of control. My only hope now is it fizzles out and mutates down to lower levels of toxicity. It’s like No one is safe. Anyone could have some weird genetic makeup that the Virus cling to you eat you alive and kills you. Like those 2 young 30 year old perfectly healthy men that recently died and Dr. Fauci has said he is completely baffled and can not explain why they died.

we have a semi neighbor that works for the public health dept and we met for a social distance dog walk yesterday and she couldn't answer it either. stay safe!!

Now we're just guessing based on probably flawed models of previous diseases. It's pretty ugly and getting worse.

here's what I know about it:

The martial arts master who died and brought Bruce Lee's character back to then-Japanese dominated China in the movie Fists of Fury was named Huo Yanjia. He was a badass near the turn of the 19th century who made his name by beating a British boxer in a fight that became symbolic of Chinese pride and honor. His story was portrayed in the movie, Fearless, by Jet Li. In the movie he's poisoned during the match. Looking up his name, there is reference of his having had health problems and a theory that he was poisoned by arsenic in the medicine he took. His death at the age of 42 seemed suspicious and the Japanese were rumored to have killed him. My analytic mind triggered on Arsenic in medicine and I went WTF? Filed this item away as trivia for to use at some boring party when I want to to get rid of a pesky nabob. Turns out that arsenic is effective at that.

Then there is a news story about arsenic poisoning from herbal remedies that were purchased in San Francisco's Chinatown. True story, it happened a few years back.

Arsenic is listed as Chinese medicine and some recent studies show it effective at reducing remission of some cancers.

The medical uses of arsenic reach back more than 2,000 years, but only recently has Western medicine embraced its surprising rise from folk cure-all to proven cancer treatment.
The January announcement of positive results in a 6-year NCI-sponsored phase III clinical trial to treat a rare form of leukemia is merely the latest in a series of kudos for arsenic's medicinal prowess. The latest study affirms that arsenic can effectively maintain remissions in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). But some investigators hope that arsenic could go even farther and eventually replace chemotherapy as a front-line treatment for APL.
“If you have something that will take away the potential toxicity and the potential real harm of high doses of anthracycline [chemotherapy] why not do it?” said Samuel Waxman, M.D., professor of medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and a professor consultant at Shanghai Second Medical University in China. “We're way behind on this.”
While arsenic has had its greatest success in APL, it is also being tested in a variety of other cancers. There are 17 ongoing clinical trials in the United States testing arsenic trioxide to treat various forms of leukemia and cancers of the central nervous system and brain, according to the National Institutes of Health Web site http://www.clinicaltrials.gov . And many more trials are planned or under way in Europe and China.


So, of course Arsenic is great for treating Coronavirus. I mean, if it's good for treating cancer, then wow that means it's great. What the hell do you have to lose?
