Could be, but without it, I'd have no home, no electricity to light and power said home, no fuel to operate my vehicles, no food, etc. It's just that these vermin add air to the mix as they do nothing but take money right out of the transaction. They do not produce anything but hot air, kinda like all those executives with failing companies that are begging for handouts from us, the lowely taxpayer. They are vermin, vultures, ripping flesh off our bones.
Strange, I would imagine that such a description would be more aptly used to describe entertainers who make millions, and former congressional members who after getting kicked out of office turn around and use their clout to get lobbying jobs that pay 2 - 5x more than what they were originally making.

Those people produce nothing, then again the executives don't really produce anything either, but if you look at it that way neither do a lot of positions. If some one does nothing more than beat a piece of iron into a new shape, or forge it into steel have they really done anything by your logic?

I can agree that executives are overpaid, but taxing them even more is not the solution, because then they can argue that they need to be paid even more to offset the increase in taxes, and once again who gets shafted, the little guy at the bottom.

You do, of course. BUT, on the bright side, you have all of that "free" medical care to make up for it. :bigjoint:

PS: I was wondering ... what is the top income tax rate where you are? And ... coupled with the VAT tax, what is the total tax bill? I remember when Brits were subject to a 90% income tax rate if they made over a certain amount. And by the way, our newly elected Messiah is making noises about instituting a VAT tax here. Ouch!
We pay National Insurance for medical care 10% of income so hardly free! Income tax for people over a certain amount has just risen from 40% to 45% It has never been any higher than that. Basic rate is 22% of income plus 10 % NI. VAT rate has just dropped from 17.5% to 15% in the hope it will stimulate the economy! Ridculous idea, people have no spare cash due to household bills tripling in a year. I paid £600 for gas and electric last year this year I pay nearly £1650. Car tax went up by 40% etc etc, and they think 2.5% off VAT will make me spend!! Idiots.

I hope everyone on this forum reads your above post, for here is the future of America. Unless we turn it around with conservative principles, of course. :blsmoke:

Well, their medical expenses are less than ours, as health care spending is over 15% of the US's GDP. The rest of the taxes do seem rather high though.

It's difficult to put onerous tax rates on "feel good" products. Villification must be applied with maximum pressure with one hand as the other rakes in the tax cash..... get it?

One of the holdouts in the US for government run medical, are all the young people that have no medical problems. I never worried about medical untill I reached about 50-55, never really had any problems. Their contention is: why should we pay for all the old fucks? But as in everything, they will get old and the youngsters will pay for them, the what goes around scenario. I think 10% may be a little high, I'm thinking around 6-8%, but I'm not a numerologist.

Why should we pay for all the old fucks, it would be much more equitable to let people save up for their own needs in the future. Instead of trying to cater to the stupidity of some, the government should make sure that everyone has all the knowledge they need to prepare for the world, and then get the hell out of the way.

Besides, I'm already have to worry about my parents, it is not fair that I have to worry about other people's parents, too. Or idiots that didn't imbue a sense of familial duty into their children, or people that did not have kids, and thus are leaches.

I dont mind paying higher taxes if it means everyone gets free and equal healthcare. Our system of free health card is not perfect, but I can sleep well at night knowing that everyone, no matter what age, how rich can get access to healthcare.

I watched 'Sicko' by Michael Moore, I couldnt believe the cost of healthcare in the US. My politics are more left than right - I grew up with socialism. It makes more sense to me.

As of 2007 the U.S. IMPORTS 66% of it's oil. Just to lift the fog for you.... :peace:

Only about 40 percent of oil comes from the United States. The rest of it is called "foreign" oil. But where does the oil really come from?

But this is perhaps one of the great fuel fallacies. In fact, the two single largest foreign oil suppliers for the United States are its two closest neighbors, Canada and Mexico. Oil from those countries makes up about 35 percent of the supply.
so...40% from the US and 35% canada and mexico thats 75%...last time I checked cracker thats north america....

I could sleep better if the government would give me my money so I can actually afford health care, instead the government has stolen my money, and given the health care that it would have bought me to some one else.

Actually, not even that, they have done much less than, and merely given Health Insurance to some one else.

Health Insurance is not Health Care.

just talking about foreign oil has nothing to do with what WE pay at the pump... a lot of that goes to commercial use. if you look at the gas stations that purchase from the middle east the main ones are
shell
chevron
amoco
exxon mobil
texaco
marathon
conoco

vallero is all owned by mexican companies and companies like bp, citgo, sunoco and phillips buy their oil from canada and mexio

so the majority of the oil that WE consume does come from the middle east.
