War

According to the video I just posted, the Ukrainians captured a lot of armor in their offensive in the east, add to that the new tanks coming, some of whom who they will want in experienced hands, it means extra Russian era tanks. Apparently, they are now gonna arm territorial units with tanks and armor too, probably refurbished Soviet stuff from one source or another. With the new western stuff, it all adds up to a formidable, armored fist that should smash through the mobik lines and sow havoc in their rear with fast moving light units causing shit and confusion all over the place. I figure with drones and accurate artillery fire the opposition will be dead before they hit their first lines, it won't cost them much to smash trough the Russian lines and after that it's drive as fast as they can to the sea of Azov and roll up as much as they can before running out of steam and logistics.

I think the Russians will be in big trouble in the spring and summer, the Ukrainians are winding up for a big punch, but it might be preceded by a kick in the nuts.

That one looks setup for 12 bombs and is a fairly expensive rig, however flying at night with a thermal camera it could destroy a lot of Russian armor and kill a lot of Russians every night. It is expensive, but not as expensive as a single Javelin and they can make and deploy these a lot quicker and upgrade them with a military grade communications system cheaply, they could also drop bombs on parked vehicles at night using GPS coordinates provided by another plane type reconnaissance drone. It could fly a preprogrammed GPS way point mission dropping bombs at each waypoint with about a 2 or 3 foot accuracy.

At about $300 US a pop for the drone, battery and bomb they are economical too, much cheaper than a switch blade, some can even carry an RPG warhead for attacking armor. Someone should buy them a shipping container of drones or the parts to make them from China, it's the most bang for the buck, other than a commercial drone converted to a tactical bomber. Though these suicide drones can fly into bunkers and through doorways and windows.

well i know which one i want to believe, but i guess we'll have to wait till at least tomorrow to see which story holds water.
Part of the problem is that we have to rely on interested parties for news. In that regard, it’s like watching any other war from the sidelines. The real story comes into focus long after the events. Even the casualty counts so far are scientific wild-ass guesses by pros dealing with figurative tea leaves.

A much better outcome than if sold into enemy hands!

If you think what gets flushed down a toilet ends up in a landfill I have news for you. :)

:peace:
You know I didn't quite think that one out. Ah! I know! It'll give the rats something to read before it hits the ocean..a letter in a bottle of sorts.

It's Europe, the home of diplomacy! In my opinion there can be no peace as long as the Russians are in Ukraine, including Crimea. First some justice and then perhaps peace and that is one of the big problems, justice for crimes against humanity and war crimes. Peace won't mean an end to sanctions for as long as these crimes are not addressed, even if the Russians are thrown out of Ukraine. Who would one "negotiate" with on the Russian side, who is there with any credibility or good faith at all?

I say eject the Russians from Ukraine while destroying as much of their army as possible in the process, then let the chips fall where they may in Moscow and let Vlad suffer the full consequences of his greed and blunders. Drive them out of Ukraine and then do tit for tat missile and drone strikes, for everyone they fire into Ukraine, the Ukrainians fire one back taking out a critical rail bridge or military target, make it hurt badly. Keep them poor and isolated until there is liberal democratic reform and make it a pattern with such governments, once they start shit the only way for it to end is with liberal democratic reform on their part. We should not treat authoritarian governments who don't live up to the UN charter the same as liberal democratic ones who do, the whims of one-man rule cannot be trusted.

So, talk of a defensive alliance once the Russians are driven from Ukraine and build up its armed forces as a bulwark against Russia, but don't put unreasonable conditions for peace on them for territory or even signing a treaty with a criminal regime. Better to continue a cold war than make Ukraine sign a peace document with Putin's name on it. Sign on the dotted line with a man and regime who murdered tens of thousands of civilians and committed atrocities all over Ukraine? Don't be absurd, one might as well make a peace agreement with Hitler while throwing the Jews of Europe and his conquered countries under the bus. Are they hoping Vlad will find Jesus at some later date and his "mood" will change?

I don't see a black/white resolution here,I hate to admit it but Russia does have legit claims concerning Crimea, they DID cede it to Ukraine during Soviet times, but it was a dog and pony show,Russia still used its access to the Black Sea and it's pop. is primarily Russian and pro Russia. You could say it's "Indian Giving" but no way Russia cedes this territory if it knows the Soviet Union is breaking up. Factor in it's strategic importance as losing it basically land locks Russia from the B. Sea and their is a good chance of it's loss prompting nuke use. The amount of loose nuke talk concerning nuking the US in Russian media off the charts and careless and alarming at the same time. It's not fair but nuclear states receive dif. treatment. Look at N. Korea, would we put up w/the BS they cause if they didn't have nukes or for that matter I guarantee Nato would be giving Ukraine air cover at the very least if the Russian's weren't a nuclear state. There are no easy answers in this and the West is very careful in what we provide in weaponry for this exact reason. For instance F-16's, Don't you think Joe has nightmares of US provided fighters flying supersonic at tree top level to bomb Moscow for the symbolic statement it would provide the Ukranians, once they have that capability you never know and then you never know how a country w/over 1700 deployed strategic nukes reacts to having their capitol hit by a capability provided by uncle Sam. It's a word wide shit sandwhich w/so many uneasy questions, hell I'm hearing that Putin;s replacement will in all likelyhood be WORSE if that can be comprehended.I don't even know who could negotiate a end game to this tangled mess.Who can deal w/ Russia, who can rebuild Ukraine, how can the war crimes be prosecuted, what kind of status does Ukraine have post war NATO/EU,what kind of hair trigger border situations will exist post war,and on and on the questions go.I just have a hard time seeing the Russians not getting crazy responding to a total defeat there is a good chance they will react w/a we don't win no one wins response. Putin surely wishes he never launched this in retrospect but he's in too deep and pride/survival have him in a corner were he can't back down. Ukraine doesn't have the manpower or Western backing to rout the Russians either, and the Chinese are starting to sniff around,it's all forboding as a MF.

“They were surprised at the vigour, competence and skill of Ukraine's military. That's because Canada has been training that military for years.”
