putin's hand picked incompetents don't seem to be able to do shit, except freeze out pig-o-zip. He has probably done more to prolong the conflict than all of putin's officers put together, so they obviously have to get rid of him, he's a threat to their standing.
I would say the damage to russia's prestige would be significant, but it's way past that, they have had no prestige to lose for over a year now.
