Lets have a filthyfletch hates CFLs forum

Filthy fletch really hates cfls, but should he have a forum dedicated to his hatred?

This was a real old thread I happen to come across so had to add to it.. I voyed no they have purpose. i used them in my house lights for few years to bring electric down for my HID lights but have since dumped my 23 watt cfls for 3 watt led house lights which if run 24 hours a day 365 cost 18 cents each a year to run
Where can one buy these led lights I've never heard of them for house lighting

I use a twin 250watt 6500k cfl system (2 bulbs housed in one reflector)to start my seedlings/young clones for the first week to 10 days of their lives and the growth outstrips any other light system...FACT. I then move onto HPS. I have used all types of light over the last 2 decades and nothing comes close. Anyone who refutes this hasnt tried it...

I think cfls are good for like the first week or two after a plant pops. The reason i say this is because it doesnt stress them out as much with intense light. After they are like an inch or 2 though the HPS comes in and does its magic.

I vegged under FL and it worked.
But, once I vegged under HPS "I seen the light".
Now, I veg underneath a 1000w Hortilux Super blue.:hump:

well i started vegging from day one with a HPS but i found it was a bit too intense for the plants. Maybe they were just slow in the beginning and i was wrong but they were going slow. When i switched to the FLouro they sped up and then i switched back and they are going even faster.

well, this is an old posting, but since no one answered...with a 4 foot fluorescent tube you would divide the lumens by 2 if you were using the shoplights that hold 2 tubes to get a pretty accurate lumen per sq ft ratio.

In my opinion cfl's are good for anyone who wants to learn to grow, stealth setups, and anywhere you just dont have room for larger lights...

This plant was grown under cfl(6500k) for veg and (2700k) for flower in a 24inch X 15inch grow area and about 28 inches of vertical room.

Of course it would have been better flowering under an HPS and vegging under a MH. But there is no sense saying they are useless.(For some individuals expectations they may be considered useless). None the less you can grow quality plants under Cfls(and if you can't, then it is probably the grower)

Honestly my plant in the picture turned out much better than the plants my friend grew under HID lighting(MH/HPS) of course that can always be due to strain and the care you give the plant.

Based on that scenario I could say Cfls are superior to HIDs...but I am not that ignorant, so I wanted to ask do you(those of you who think Cfls are useless) even understand what you are talking about?

To anyone who would like to argue that there are better lighting systems, it's not that I disagree. I just don't see a need to say one light system is useless because you prefer another.

my friend is all about his stupid crazy setups with bulbs everywhere. he even finally came around to his senses and bought an hps but its so tiny hes gonna buy another mini one so he can put it at another angle around his plant! such cfl thinking! if he just bought 1 good light.... some people blow my mind

here are some pics grown under sunleaves satellite IV high output floros..

granted they arent CFLs... but i still like to try to get the word out about them..

any pics with actual buds are from my last harvest and where flowered under JUST the floros.. and the pics of the vegging plants are ones i am vegging now...

i am sure someone will say something about me also having HPS lamps in my room now (you'll see in the pics the room setup).. here is my reason why to cut the arguement off before it starts..

1) the main reason was money.. each floro costs about 500... believe me they are worth every penny... and i would have gotten 2 more instead of the hps lamps, but the hps setups cost my about 600 or so less...

from having the 2 next to each other through veg i can tell you for sure that these floros beat the shit out of the hps.. watt for watt i get much more growth with the floros.. i still want to try MH bulbs against them to see if they stand up.. but against a 400w hps there is no doubt the floros win hands down..

i still have to see how they compare through flowering to be completely accurate.. and i am willing to put money down that the floros will out preform the hps... and since its a side by side test i'll be able to tell fairly accurately... the biggest variables are i have multiple strains going and have different veg times with them all... so there will be a little margin of error.. but not much...

I would like to add that this 'argument' will go nowhere because most people on here have no experience of twin 250 watt cfl reflectors and how good they are. Rather like the playstation vs. Xbox argument. Most people say they prefer what they have got just because they only have that option. I used only hps from '90-05 but with the new cfls coming onto the market I gave them a try. As I have said I only use from seedling/clone rooting stage till 2 weeks maximum. Used after that point I found the growth rate slowed so hps comes back into play. When growing seedlings under both at the same time the cfls beat the hps hands down and are far more forgiving on younger plants. Try before you condemn things, speaking from hearsay or just being a sheep doesnt teach you anything. Being blinkered is for horses...

The sunleaves T5s are very nice you can get get 8 tube setups for about $200 now adays and even add led T5 tubes too them for same output with less wattage. Florescent tubes like T8s and T5s are great for vegging and new clones and seeds and my buddy does 4x8 tents with 4 sets of the T5 sunleaves 8 tube setups and gets great yields.
