Of course it does. A 5th century swastika on the side of a buddhist temple is not an evil symbol. Turn it 45 degrees, place it in a white circle on a red flag and voila! Incontrovertibly racist. Words change meaning over time (negro used to be acceptable, the norm even, apparently not anymore), symbols also acquire new meanings. SOMETIMES THOSE NEW MEANINGS ARE SO POWERFUL THEY SUPERCEDE THE PREVIOUS MEANING. I'm pretty sure the swastika falls in that category.Because i know the origin of the flag, that flag does not bother me at all.Was it used to do evil, yes it was.But does that make the symbol itself bad!! No it does not.
What does the swastika mean to you?
