Why are so many growers against gun ownership?

A .50 is a Anti Material Weapon for those that that are reading this and Don't know what a Barret .50 is. Anti Material weapons are great for taking out vehicles. A .50 will shoot right through a engine block. It makes a damn fine Sniper rifle too cuz all you gotta do is touch someone with that big ole bullet and they go splat.

Here is a Comparison of bullet sizes, the .50 is on the left , a .22 is on the right. You see the standard battle and machine gun cartridge in the middle , the .308 win aka 7.62x51 NATO round. Don't even get me started on the damage you can do if you use armor piercing incendiary rounds with a .50. We used to Blast holes through old Armored Personnel Carriers with a Browning m2 Machine gun, 8" diameter exit holes and that is after going through nearly 6 inches of Armor Plating.

The AK-47 uses the 7.62x39 and the M-16 uses the 5.56x45 NATO cartridge. The .300 Win Mag is used for large game hunting like Elk and Moose.

I only own a few guns now......Ruger .40, Colt Ar-15 and a Mossberg .20 for the wife.

About the .50, I had a roommate years ago that had a Desert Eagle .50 handgun......thing was an absolute hand cannon, took a little while to reacquire and steady on a target after the first shot. LOL sliding the breach was like a 6 inch throw due to the size of the round.

Yep the Mk211 round, throw in a tracer every 6th round and go vehicle hunting at night with your M2. Great fun, just outstanding.

So is having a .50 rifle meant to protect your property from light armored vehicles or for 'sport'?

I like guns as much as the next guy, but you have to draw a line somewhere. A round big enough to rip off someone's torso at 2 miles is where I draw mine.

Sport is not the issue.

Nor is hunting.

The right to keep and bear arms is not contingent on anything but liberty.

Citizens with the ability to oppose tyranny is the idea behind the Second Amendment.

A tough concept to wrap your head around if you assume big government is inherently good.
