Part of the reason is they are really wide pots, its the lateral branching that makes them so round. if you use little pots they just get root bound, and lanky. although if you had topped yours more they would have been bushier. i only topped one time in early veg on 4 and left the two ssh single stalk. if left alone to do their own thing they can turn into perfect globes. Growing through cages and trellis helps too, along with foliar feeding and misting with water to weigh down branches. you can also stake them and pull them apart. lots of ways to bush them out really. I have seen rows of cannabis that look like citrus trees that were left totally alone in huge pots in full sun. and were only pruned for airflow on the ground.
 
I just saw this and wow! I am running 20 gallon smart pots I love them. The only problem is now i got a church behind me and there is a parking light thing. MY banana kush isnt flowering yet on top because of this light I believe. I can see it being lit up in front of me lol. Do you think just i just climb up there use black spray paint on the light?

remember the moon is pretty bright so as long as the street lamp isnt brighter than a full moon on a clear night you should be fine.
 
Im still confused as to why your even using smartpots, wouldnt renting an excavator and just diggin be easier? or does leaving the root system mak root rot more likely in the future?

Thats the whole point of a smart pot is that it is easier. no digging. their are advantages and disadvantages to smart pots but the BIGGEST advantage is its easier than digging. Building a living soil with cover crops is what i ultimately want. But my native soil does not drain and their are gophers and moles to combat. so yes i would much rather be in the ground but no its not easier, actually quite the opposite.

edit: as far as root rot goes whether in pots or ground, care is taken to remove large roots, solarize, amend and treat soil prior to re-planting the following year.

also another downfall of the smart pot is it becoming rootbound, will be doubling and tripling the amount of soil next year.

BB GUN................Kushking that is awesome! Have they done most of there stretching or they still climbing?
 
for the most part stretch is over and buds are stacking on ssh and purple diesel.

my qrazy train phenos are all flowering differently though. the most heavily leaning trainwreck pheno is furthest along. and the querkle dominant is barely flowering. i guess the space queen characteristics are making it take longer? would sub or anyone else like to opine on this?

Is that guess from experience? Doesn't seem possible considering doublejj's 15 footers only yielded 2-3 lbs each. Unless the strain/soil could cause a huge difference

btw are smart pots durable? Can they tear? I'm thinking about ordering some for next year.
 
height means nothing without lots of budsites. i dont know whose plants you are referring to but that sounds like a lanky plant, with lots of trunk .as a reference, you can easily get over a pound in a puny 20 gallon.

i think you're idea of what is possible is limited. some people are using 800-1000 gallon pots. and some go with 12' x 12' mounds. eventually they will measure in at 12'-15' high but are wider than they are tall!! those will be 10+ pounds.

if spaced properly with plenty of sun a 200 is supposed to yield 5# easy regardless of strain. but yes soil and gardening skill play a big role in yields.

have you not seen sub's video garden of weeden? those are monsters!

smart pots are super durable. i pressure wash mine.
 
He's the one with the carport greenhouse 2010/2011 thread in the outdoor section. It's not lanky. I've seen Garden in the mist vids but this is pretty insane too.

Though it's my goal for next year I just haven't harvested plants this big before so I have no grasp of how much they would yield. I have an idea of what size plant will yield a pound and below, but beyond that beats me.

Still I can't believe the tree in the picture below only yielded 2 lb. Maybe they're too tightly spaced.
