registry parameters?
Parameter Ram, yeap!

Here Carne, try this: (from apple)

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
  5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  6. Release the keys.
Your computer's PRAM and the NVRAM are reset to the default values. The clock settings may be reset to a default date on some models.
Resetting PMU on PowerBook or iBook computers

In some troubleshooting situations, if resetting PRAM does not resolve an issue, resetting the PMU may be the next appropriate step. For information on when this is appropriate and for instructions on how to reset the PMU in your PowerBook computer, see Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU).

...I've worked in design and production for a good portion of my work life. You do not seem to have a proper handle on why mac was built in the first place :) Mac is candy for non-professional users, yes, but you can thank a marketing team for that.

If I had to work with a pc, I'd have to open a plastics recycling facility shortly thereafter.
And as i've said many times, you can buy shit, or you can buy good quality. I've worked with my pc's for years and years, never had a single thing break other than by my own doing. There is no difference in quality between a mac and something i'd own myself in fact i'd personally go as far as to say that the mac hardware is greatly inferior to what i have lying around.

...right, but you likely have blips and beeps in your head that the average user doesn't. Some average users cannot open the box a pc came in without getting a scar  so if there are parts lying around on the floor it's only 'cause they chucked the damn thing in anger.

Then, they'd have to call you to fix it, and they'd be bleeding.

I have no idea what zap the pram means. :(

...if you get it going, there is likely a preferences file that is pooched (more on that later). In your spotlight icon (upper, far right) there may a flashing dot while the drive is being indexed, if it doesn't stop, it could be 'mama', and she ain't that cheap.

:)

...one more tiny trick that could get you going. After shutting down, start up again but hold the power button until you hear a 'long-ish' beep. The beep is almost snarly, like you've offended the computer, but no worries. (haha...)

If none of this works, service charges

no beep. It just goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little wheel.

At least I'm helping the OP. He can learn some tips and tricks with the troubleshooting you're doing. :p

...well, your last try should be with disc warrior before it ends up face to face with a book on the joys of computing :)

edit:

If the problem persists, run hardware test:

To use Apple Hardware Test on your MacBook Air:
Disconnect all external devices from your computer except the power adapter. Restart your MacBook Air while holding down the D key.
When the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen appears, select the language for your location.
Press the Return key or click the right arrow button.
When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears (after about 45 seconds), follow the onscreen instructions.
If Apple Hardware Test detects a problem, it displays an error code. Make a note of the error code before pursuing support options. If Apple Hardware Test doesn’t detect a hardware failure, the problem may be software related.

I'm running it right now. Thanks. :D
