Is marijuana addictive?

It just depends on the individual. It depends on what they're using it for. Most people use it for recreation or for medicinal purposes. Some people use it to escape or self-medicate. Usually those are the ones who have addiction issues and tend to use other types of self-medication to their detriment.
Cs, I respectfully have to disagree. Addictive properties have nothing to do with what a person uses a substance for. A guy taking lortab for back pain long enough will become just as physically addicted (and more dependant due to the relief of back pain) as one taking it for recreational purposeses
I really believe that pot DOES have some degree of pychologial dependency. I get irritable as hell when I get low, and dont let me run out! but as far as the commonly accepted concept of addiction with dangerous physical withdrawal, that we all know to be hogwash and govt rhetoric If our Government were truly concerned for public health, then FAR more substances than pot would be illicit, including some of the most readily available drugs, alcohol and nicotine.

i have just got to learn voice recognition. y'all would NOT believe what I just went thu to type this (and edit it)with somewhat accuracy I'll post some un edited pots here. this stroke has not only fucked up myleft hand and typing, it's fucking ith my ability to see vowels or remember where keys are. Microsoft also makes a very durable mouse. this one hit the deck at least 5 times during this composition.

I have just returned from a two week tolerance break, the only withdrawls I was experiencing was an increased desire to smoke cigarrettes, increased dream activity (REM rebound, I have been reading) and perhaps a slightly shorter temper for the first few days. Also life was a little bit more boring at times :)

I could give up weed easier than I could any of the following:Tobacco, Sugar, Caffene and sex. It would be the second most missed out of the list though.

been turning over op's question on and off for days now. me, i can not decide. there was a time when i had to be stoned to do anything and i think i needed to be stoned but, maybe that was me just not caring. definitely there was a time when my body and brain needed mj but that was more to be able to switch off at night. i didn't need it during the day, nor would i have done at the time but at night i had to smoke marijuana to shut down peacefully if i didn't have any i would be stressed, hard, but then i was doing stressful thing.
There was also a different time when i had nothing no money i would have done almost anything for a bag of weed i had to have the relief mj gave me. was not doing other drugs or drinking at the time.

was i addicted to marijuana deep down i would say yes i was ??

Growing Marijuana is highly addictive. Trying to collect various strains, seeds, and having the latest genetics at ones disposal, just as addictive.
I don't smoke much myself. Very occasionally. But I do "other" stuff.
I def can't picture myself not growing it anytime soon. It's the thing I think the most about, and enjoy in life the most.

Smoking it tho, I can go without that if I feel like it with no issues.

I don't personally think it is as in the body goes through withdrawals if you don't have any....but what about psychologically? I know I have an overall better attitude if I know I've got some bud around. What do ya'll think?
my mind spins if i smoke to much, which is all the time. but i love to smoke pot it tastes better than squares makes me feel better, but it can be addictive. i smoke it and im buzz, i get stoned and my mental status is fucked. so i stop and now i want to smoke, i thought about it all day, well i got a test for math so i cant, well then after the test... but wait what if my mind races... mmmm the taste of cotton candy. the smell of dank.....the swat outside my door one house down....*smiles* im a door away and still in the clear.

Coffee is more addictive.
That depends on the individual. Stimulants (even the strong ones) don't do much for me one way or the other, and they're among the most rapidly and powerfully addictive substances available. Downers otoh ... I have a bit of a soft spot for those. Fortunately, my body doesn't tolerate alcohol all that well, which has protected me from any danger of becoming a drunk. Alcohol is another very addictive material, and there again different people have different susceptibilities. cn

Smoking pot is just a good one at that otherwise not addictive maaate I don`t go around telling people hey man I think your addicted to fishing, or cooking, or gardening CAN you quit? They would just say why would I have to :D

well, i know what you mean by being addictive in a sense, but every rehab i have been to, all 11 of them, one of the first things you're asked to fill out is a survey about whether or not you think you are addicted to w/e substance, and it's usually a list of about 20 items or so..
i'll try and find a list of the questions in a few, but they are basically questions like, does your using x cause problems with your job??
have any family members every brought up your use of x?
have you ever used x when you hadn't planned on using it??

so, according to this criteria, i don't think marijuana is the least bit addictive..

I realize that there is a continuum between simple preference and outright addiction ... but I'd be careful to use the word with some restraint. Many formerly clinical terms have been stolen by pop culture to mean so much less than they used to ... like paranoid (for being unremarkably suspicious of or anxious about something), psycho (for being inappropriate or annoying) etc.

I can only imagine that the number of people who are actually addicted to gardening, cooking and other hobby activities is very very small. OK /rant
