Cars are not guns, either operationally or legally. Not a suitable comparison.
Also, a DUI arrestee is subject to punitive penalties including forfeiture of the vehicle. Nothing common-sense about that; in fact it's MADD as the proverbial hatter. cn

If only there was a national registry of guns linked to owners then this would have been averted.
As it is, because the ~150 million lawful gun owners are not tracked like non-neutered pets, he gets pulled over with two loaded handguns and an AR15 next to him in the front seat and the cop claps him on the shoulder and gives him a donut and tells him to have a nice day. Right, buck?

Like roadside check points, where the cops stop you at night and shine a light in your eyes and make small talk while the other cop shines a flash light through the passenger side window and looks for anything that is forbidden, and the other cop walks around your car with a dog waiting for it, or maybe coaxing it, to alert?
We just need a total nanny/police state and then we will all be secure! Wheee!!!!

Ok, so the police are called to your house for something unrelated.. How exactly do they stumble on the gun? Are you so irresponsible that you leave firearms laying on the floor? Are you advocating cops get to search homes now to check that all guns are legal?
If you are already a criminal, the cops dont need to check the gun, you are in violation.
Therfore, you would need to be a legal citizen subject to unreasonable search and seizure and expectation of guilt for the police to have to check the weapons you have registered.
Are you really interested in a Nazi state? I would rather the police leave me the fuck alone...

Aside from the issue of gun control, safety in schools is of paramount concern.
Why not consider the use of highly trained K-9's firstly as a deterent against guns & drugs, secondly as means of neutralising an active shooter or threat. They've been used for centuries as guard/protection dogs and we all know how far they come over time. They are one of the few, if not, only animals that can read our eyes and the intent behind them.
Obviously you would choose the right dogs (numbers depend on size) for the role as you'd require a confident, social, intelligent animal that is capable of moving through varying envionments with kids, adults, other dogs/animals while being able to identify/analyze/neutralise any possible threat. They can also sniff out weapons in bags or hidden in the buildings or on the grounds. Soldiers trust them with their lives in combat, maybe a nice way to retire military working dogs - Great hours 9-3, good holidays & lots of pats from the kids!

cnSince guns are not registered in the USA, that would be a very severe penalty considering hundreds of millions of firearms are not registered to anyone.
How do you stop Billy Bob down the block from selling me his .45 without doing a background check on me?
Sounds great until one of the dogs tears a 5 year olds face off, then laws would have to be enacted banning dogs from schools. "Dog Free Zones" would have to be setup. Sounds like such a hassle.
