They are blurry but you can see the outline of the fry. Counted at least 10 which is pretty good for her first time all natural.
Put the female back in the community tank and one of the males is already claiming territory for them to mate.

You are making me want to rework my tank - atm the only fish in there are a couple of elderly black lace tetra's, a small pleco & one very large, very industrious Mayan. I'll clean & arrange & two days later he's moved 50 lbs of gravel.
Plants ? Forget it, he'll dig/rip them out to suit his own tastes.
The other issue is not having a pet shop locally - that in itself makes cool fish tough to get.
I've thought seriously about mail order - you have any experience there ?

I actually have another 55 that I could set up for feeders & invest in an Arapima (always loved them) for the 70.
Just thinkin out loud.

Edit: Oh, and congrats "Daddy".

You cannot arrange the tank to suit him - I'm not joking about the gravel - I have around 90 lbs in there & he moves it at will one mouthful at a time.
I should do a time lapse, it's freakin amazing !

Thanks bro.
I have little experience on mail orders but know they are legit if you can find a reputable dealer. Dad did it years ago at his old shop and had no issues. Should not be a problem so long as your location is within shipping range. Probably can't in the winter.

I bet if you searched for a local breeder you may get lucky.

I'm also interested in ordering some fish mainly for the purpose of sourcing some true wild caught or F1 cichlids for breeding purposes. My local fish shop is known to buy fish from you if they are good stock

I also have a 75 gal and 37 gal bowfront sitting empty. Should have them set up by spring.

(Check out Bolly1234 on youtube if you haven't seen his videos, some good cichlid stuff.)

Ill keep updating yall on the babies

how are the small fries doing?
bert says high :eyesmoke:
They are doing good but the mom died.

She wouldn't eat anything after going back in the community tank. That and being harassed by the males must of done her in.

Should of just let her eat the babies but I didn't know. She was a pure bred German Red that I picked up across state and paid 30$ for. Thought she was a male until she got pregnant. Also the only fish that would jump out of the water when she was eating... Now all I have is a bunch of hybrid babies.

The fry are growing slow, not much to update for now. Trying to find the right food for them, right now just ground up fish flakes. Hope they make it.

Did you catch anything fishing Sunny?

Is Bert shy or are you just slow on the shutter ? :D
no Bert is far from shy lol i think it's because she is small, she is actually looking at me when i took the picture, that and i have a shitty camera.

sorry about the mom outdoorsman, that sucks, my condolences :eyesmoke:

The only thing fishy going on here is that someone needs to close their legs!

Get it? See what I did there? Making reference to the awful smell some girls produce in the vaginal area to the title of the thread?

Yes. They can eat too much which is bad for their health and causes more fish poop in the water. And even if they don't eat it all, the extra food can rot and pollute the water between cleanings.

Keep in mind that their stomach is about as big as their eyeball.
