It's true and false. Could your average clerk shoot a rifle accurately? Yes. The catch is that unless you're in a combat-deployable unit; you don't do workup training or really even go on field ops. That's where you learn shit that's useful.
It's all civilians mainside now. When we go to the field they just heat up a water bath and drop some t-rats in until heated. Gotta love those bags of "scrambled eggs".
My MOS school was at Knox, Army chow is miles ahead of Marine chow. I can only imagine the on-call gourmets the spoiled ass chair force has.
I have heard that the airforce barracks have maid service. Yes army chow was good especially civilian cooks in Georgia. Airforce chowhalls were like my mom's house.
I was pretty happy to be on board a Carrier (Mardet) for 18 months, the food was downright good, except when they ran out of milk and we had to drink the "Green stuff" milk substitute. Went ok with froot loops.
Yeah, went to Nellis once for combined warfare trials, TVs in the Dining hall, ice cream, real food, and about 90% of the Airwomen were fawning all over us. The Women Marines look like Phyllis Diller so it was quite a shock to see actual feminine looking females with their tree outfits on.
In Balad Iraq we had a taco bell and a burger King.

We had our share of chemical laced MRE's as well, I always ate them cold because of the smell of the chems cooking.
Thats not so bad. I suppose its cheaper, easier and more efficient to hire civilians to do that job.

Self heating MRE's were not part of the Marine Corps meal system. If you wanted it hot you put it in your Trouser cargo pocket and let your sweat and long physical labor heat that sucker up. Otherwise every MRE was a cold one.
wow what to say, you say you need to hire these people cause a marine is to stupid to feed them selves, maybe we should take away your allowances and give it to the people you need to feed you? The military doesn't even do a 1/4 of the shit they use to do. You bunch used to be pretty self reliant but it has apparently been contracted out to people more qualified. When do we cut the military's pay?
