Moisture causes the crackling. Same thing happens when you burn uncured firewood. Next time you cook bacon pay attention to the sound. It will stop crackling when all of the moisture is gone!

If using clear water is considered flushing then I flush every time I water! Dumping excess amounts of water into the pot can effect the roots in a bad way and should only be done if you really screwed up by over feeding. Less is more with weeds! I have found that the more I ignore my plants...

I hardly ever have water come out of the bottom of my stuff. When it does its usually because I poured it in too fast and it ran down between the soil and pot. I don't like rinsing out my soil and know exactly how much water for each sized container with my soil mix.

Great information! I have been lucky enough to stop pm with Greencure and lots of air movement along with keeping the humidity below 50%. I can honestly say that every time I had pm it was after the humidity went above 45%.

I used to grow using Hydro. There are plenty of "problems" to deal with so you cannot leave for an extended amount of time. I had to measure ppm daily along with topping off the rez since water evaporates relatively fast even with a lid. In my opinion Hydro requires more attention than soil.

Soil buffers ph. Changing the ph of your water won't change the ph of your soil. Using water way outside of the scale will effect the plant. I used to chase the ph of my water and had tons of issues. Mine is 7.12 out of the tap and goes straight into the soil.
