If it started in an inert mix then it might be a potassium def. or a combination of that and magnesium def. Mag def looks different as it doesn't have the necrotic spots.

I agree to an extent. My water is high in calcium which causes a magnesium lockout on a particular strain. If you use RO water you have to add it back with cal-mag.
