I was considering trying out the light reduction method for flowering this run. It got me wondering if the same thing would hold true for switching the plants into flower mode by gradually cutting down the veg-time hours instead of drastically just flipping them all of a sudden. Thoughts?

That's a pretty dood idea but that screen won't screen out many of the bugs that will cause problems in a grow. I'd suggest that you add some cheap furnace filter material. That will effectively screen out any bugs that could come in and not restrict airflow.
