It would be easier to help you, with a couple pictures. But from what you are saying, it may be just because they are different strains. Indica dominant strains will generally be shorter and bushier, while Sativa dominant strains will be taller and kind of thin.

If you're set on flowering now, yes, it will do all right - just not as well as if you had let it mature more fully. Think of it kind of like a twelve yr. old having a baby, vs a twenty yr. old.
