I tried it with my first grow - didn't work out so well, I wouldn't recommend it. Better off buying some soil - even cheap potting soil would be better than yard dirt.

I agree. Also remember, if you're useing a moisture meter, be sure to test in several different areas, as some spots will probably be dryer than others - you wouldn't want to hit a dry spot and water her when the rest of it is still soaked.

I don't think it's that cut and dried. Two females from the same strain, grown in the same conditions, then probably. But other variables might make the smaller plant flower first - strain comes to mind, a smaller Indica might flower before a larger Sativa, or say if you actually had a smaller...

Your ladies will grow 2 to 3x their height once in flower, so if you're limited to 30", then I wouldn't allow them to go over 10" before flowering. I would take your clones right before you out them into flower. For the nutes, I'd give them about a week into flower before changing their nutes...

You can change right to your desired light cycle. There's more room for experimentation with that kind of thing in veg. Where you don't want to mess around is in flower. No worries - they won't go into flower until you switch to 12/12.:peace:
