    LEDs for lettuce and microgreens

The Vero 10 should work great. This one is rated at 126 lumens/watt at 350ma. http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/BXRC-40E1000-B-03/976-1173-ND/3913159 14 of them should make about 16500 lumens. 4000k is an ideal temp for what you're trying to do. At $4.64 each 14 would run $64.96 +...

The new Vero is good news. Now that I've nearly got my light perfected, snicker snicker... Something promising for the new year. I'll bite big on a major efficiency upgrade. Now I'll have to decide what to do with the 'old' emitters. Maybe retrofit the entire house, garage and outdoor lights?

Commercial COB lamp, Optic - Vero 29

At first look I thought it's a great idea but it needs much better thermal management. That light would benefit with better cooling for sure. 2 more fans blowing directly at the heat sinks and both side fans exhausting might be enough to cool it adequately.

    DIY COB reflectors

Maybe this would work as a top coat over the white on the inside of the reflector cup. http://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-214944-Reflective-10-Ounce-Spray/dp/B000LNVC1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418831252&sr=8-1&keywords=reflective+spray+paint

That is how my main light is designed. A lot of heat sink with a little airflow. With no airflow the sink tops out at 42c. With both fans running at 6v it tops out at 28c. I am pretty confident that the light will survive if the cooling fails.

New LEDs: are they for growing?

So true... There's also much better lumen maintenance over time which certainly makes LED more attractive to me..

    Stealth/Safe DIY CXA3070 project

TRC Electronics may have the HLG-185H-C1050B. It might be worth a call to them since they don't indicate whether it's in stock or not on the website. The two 1.4a drivers (HLG-185H-C1400B) certainly do cost more upfront but they will run either 2 or 3 emitters each so that would give you the...

    Stealth/Safe DIY CXA3070 project

Their 1.4a version maxes out at 142v. I haven't found one with more output voltage at 1.4a anywhere. There is a limit that is imposed by the exchange from volts to amps. As the amperage increases the available voltage decreases. Ohms law. The HLG-185H-500C max voltage is 400 while the same...

    Stealth/Safe DIY CXA3070 project

The HLG-185H-C1400B max voltage is 143 which is not enough for 4 CXA3070. You will need over 160v. To my knowledge, there are no 1.4a drivers that make that much voltage. You will proably need at least 2 drivers for 4 @1.4a.

    Stealth/Safe DIY CXA3070 project

I'm a big fan of driving cobs soft because of the greater efficiency at lower currents. You could drive your 3070s at 1a rather than 1.4a and still get a lot of light with the benefit of lower temps and more lumens/watt. This driver would be a good solution for driving all 4 cobs at 1a...

To drive 4 3070s, I would use 2 of these and run 2 strings of 2. http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?search_type=jamecoall&catalogId=10001&freeText=HLG-120H-C1400B&langId=-1&productId=2189265&storeId=10001&ddkey=http:StoreCatalogDrillDownView Dimming is pretty simple...

    ...All Things Vero...

The Vero line has a bit more red than the Cree CXA. I use the 3500k for that reason. The 3500k has plenty of red for flowering and would be OK for the little ones too. 5000k is what I use for clones, vegging and to keep my mother plant. Also, your plans look good to me. I like that you're...

    upgrading to led

I really depends on how efficiently the emitters are driven. A rule of thumb is it takes about 65-75% as much led wattage to get the same result as hps. I suggest starting with ~400w. You can always add more.

Nice comparison! I came to the same conclusion regarding the good value of the 4.6" serrated. That's what I used for my overhead flowering light.
