Software engineer grows (DWC) weed pt 2 w/ timelapse!

poor webcam lol I'm now at.... 100% horizontal space filled. I only had to pull the far left one a little closer to the wall (webcam), but i never even had room to train any of the other plants- they just filled in where they could.

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Fair enough. Well, once i find some decent solid core wire I'm just gonna man up and try the damn thing out lol

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Hmmm so am i asking for trouble here by getting caps involved? The frequency of the Pi PWM varies with the duty cycle- not sure what the ranges are, but frequency isn't totally reliable here.

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Hmm, still getting some weird discharge/charge spikes. I had to do 2 equivalent caps too, otherwise I was getting a low or high bias (i did remove the 100 ohm res from the DIM circuit tho). EDIT: not like the spikes are going to do much for the end reading i don't think. I just don't understand...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

hmm, i tried adding caps in a few places in the simulator and i just end up getting weird discharge noise now =\

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Ugh... so its either A) the current supply on the ohm meter is too weak B) the ohm meter is constant voltage instead of constant current C) the resistance on the NPNs is far from what was modeled and im getting some serious bleed through the right-most NPN base. EDIT: I wouldn't care about the...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

hmm, so i flipped both transistors- still seeing the same results from the ohm-meter: guessing it still might be related to too low of current tho, or I guess the ohm meter can be a constant-voltage supply too (suppose the math works the same). Going to get it wired up tho soon, see what...

MOTHER OF GOD. They are EBC.... @CannaBruh you may have just saved my life.

these are what I have: https://www.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Components/2N3904.pdf CBE right?

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

fuck, did i just wire this up backwards? I hate that these simulators don't have actual transistor packages available.

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Yea, NPNs are CBE (top to bottom respectively on my layout, picture and schematic) EDIT: shared ground at the emitters- guess this would be a 'common emitter' circuit, with an NPN inverter. EDIT2: And the DIM circuit switches between 2 paths: highest resistance at the always-open parallel...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Here's what I got on the bread board: <Removed, because of fucking... EBC vs CBE> Not getting the expected ohm readings from my meter though- once the gates start flipping i never get back to 80K ohms. Guessing maybe the ohm meter doesnt provide enough current to saturate the collector? Either...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Alright... one last final modification. I added a... voltage divider? at the top between the collector and base of the 2 transistors- this should give the left path a much lower resistance and not trickle any meaningful charge to the base of the right path. Also added a 100 ohm resistor to the...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Alright, I think I settled on this. Goes from 4.5mV to 10V exactly on the 0.1mA constant current source of DIM+, with DIM- on a shared ground. Also doesn't invert, and can use two of the same low-amp NPNs. Should work with 5V or 3.3V on either combination of the power supply in at the top, and...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Such an idiot, this makes so much more sense now. I keep forgetting a power source has to be either a voltage or current source. So DIM+ isn't a 10V source, its a 0.1mA source. Holy fucking shit, this kinda makes sense now. So any 0.1mA source with a 10k resistor is 1V. My god. Ok, so I think...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

Ok, so I think I'm just going to go the optocoupler route lol. I just wanted to avoid getting another box of 20 of a component ill probably just use once =\ Sorry, box of transistors I just bought :( So, I think im going to get some of these: http://mkpochtoi.narod.ru/pc817_ds.pdf PC817 I...

    I NEED HELP 5V TO 10V PWM

So the common ground was actually what i was concerned/worried about initially. Also read a few places on the Pi forums that yes- you may get feed back in various situations via ground trying to regulate an external circuit. This is where my electronics knowledge takes a sharp dive- can you run...

Had to install an aquarium heater finally- was really worried that it might get too hot, damage the roots or something (The heater is like.... in the roots lol). But this heater has actually been pretty awesome so far! It can heat up to like 50gal, so should work in my 10gal outside even below...
