trimming the bottom third just gets rid of the parts of the plant that gets no light. If you have awesome light penetration you could trim away less. It is just so the plant doesn't waste energy that could go to tops

Yes, generators are another option, exchange propane tanks instead of co2 tanks. Or you can pipe it into your homes gas lines and not have to worry about exchanging tanks at all.

It is fine to clone from flowering plant, I took my genes from a plant in week 7 of flower. At first the cuttings started growing out single leaf nodes, this is totally normal and has nothing to do with ph or anything else, but by the 4th or 5th set the plants looked totally normal again...
