I've found the best way to prevent wilting is to lightly scrape the stems with an exacto knife. Even so, some will wilt for a day or two.

I wouldn't drop the perlite. I've done side-by-side grows 25% perlite and no perlite. Perlite is definitely better.

I bought a variable speed control for it and it's very quiet at 70%. I don't have actual decibal numbers though.
