How much affect on coverage does the hood have? Wouldn't one of those Magnum XXXL or whatever hoods cover more than a smaller hood? I've got a 600 in a 5x5 tent and I'd get another one if I could afford it.

That would be true if they were equally efficient, which they are not. MH is about a third less efficient at producing light than a HPS. If it isn't producing light, its producing heat. Incandescent bulbs vs CFL for example.

CFL bulbs are internally ballasted, HPS/MH bulbs are not. That also explains the price difference. The main cost of CFL's is the bulb, the main cost of the HPS/MH is the ballast. That ballast seems awfully pricey. Why not just get the complete lighting kit with the reflector, bulb, socket...

I use only stainless steel screens in my Da Buddha. I've tried both and the steel ones stay put in the wand better because they aren't as pliable.

You should be able to get it at the hydro store. I'm surprised the guy didn't try to sell you some. If you have 7.0 calibration solution on hand, it can be used as a acceptable substitute.

Keep the cap full of storage fluid. You don't want the reference junction drying out.
