Probably overwatering. I think the roots don't develop properly when they are always wet. I have had a lot of success when I let the soil dry out and then water. But that's soil... What about lighting? and what's a throwie?

Keep the lights close and any light is good light. I think a mixture is nice if you can do it. With CFLs the more the better. Good Luck!

I wouldnt worry about smell with a pc grow... I leave one fan on 24/7 and one 12/12 with the lights (to cool them). It's really important that they get fresh air. if you have an intake without an escape, the fans may not be doing anything.... the air needs somewhere to go. if the pc is sealed...
