fox farm, sunshine mix, promix, or take any thing decent even miricle grow organic potting soil you can even use a good peat and pearlite mix just rely on your nutes. the fox farm is only 18-20 per bag online plus shipping but its mostly peat and pearlite(besides nutes)

hello bud, forgot to mention about the soil so here goes ... all mix is really high in nutrients a little too much actually but dont worry it will stop !!
some use light mix etc i dont, i use canna pro soil which is similar to all mix just not quite as strong ! my gro shop told me to try canna as its not as bad for seedlings, cuttings etc and im happy(still not perfect) !
your plants will be ok just keep watering lightly, no food ! it straightens out in the end !
if you want to get everything perfect enjoy the stress as there is always something as leaves go yellow n die normally so cant be stopped ! as long as they look alive dont worry to much as like ive said before its usually us growers trying to sort out a problem which isnt really a problem that fecks us ! i got some seedlings at mo that look really funky (2 out of 18 actually !)

stinkyg - cheers my man - so f***ing true - at the start (13 days ago) my seedling shot off from its tap root and grew at a rate that amazed both me and the missus, then as if in slow motion it almost stopped growing, the big leaves yellowed and what i feared would happen did - nute burn from the allmix but low and behold (as you say) the little plant pulled through, whether transplanting into bigger pot with just seedling compost helped or was a mere coincidence im not sure (thgough i'll obviously take the credit!) but when i removed the plant from its initial pot there were roots all around the outside of the soil so must have been the right time to do it.
As i mentioned i got my 5 x ww to start off and since im not impressed with the JAB john innes soil based seed compost i picked up the other day (which has set like concrete around my Big Bang - more problems to come im sure!!) i picked up some 'westland garden health john innes no1 young plants compost today which is peat based and looks much better than the other JAB soil based shite - which id like to add that my old dear picked up for me by request3, only 3 quid so ill let it pass - tis chrimbo after all.
I also got another bathroom ex. fan fro Q&B to pull air into my grow room instead of relying on a passive intake , along with the caron filter pads i have mentioned before which i have taped to the grill on my outake fan - it does cut the flow donw a touch but still extracts the warm air so should hopefully work besides im not concerend with a huge air-turnaround as long as there is little or no smell. This is a suck it and see experiment - i am fully prepared to fork out the dollar on a carbon filter / rvk / acoustic ducting if required, in fact i have found a nice deal on ebay - for all of the forementioned plus 45m aluminium foil tape and the jubilee clips 50 nicker. Asked the missus to get it for me for xmas but how do we explain me opening up that lot to her old dears (which is where we stay every year) on christmas morning - if i had my way - id swap the aftershave, jacket, socks and boxers for extraction kit, ec meter, bubblegum seeds and rockwool cubes!

thanks again stinkyg and much rep to grow4joe - have taken a few pics of todays BB and post in a bit - any thoughts regarding this john innes no1 would be greatly appreciated.

if don't post before merry chrimbo to all of ya's - peace and by the way joe enjoy your last bit of tuti - fruity, should have took a cutting of that dank sweetheart mate, you could have tried to do a big bang - tuti fruity cross!

hello eager, um what to say about the soil ie john innes etc(any no)
i think its probably great outside as the soil is good quality but its the chances of bugs n shit ! holes in the bags plus there normally left outside for a bit !
proper soil mixes ie bio bizz, canna are both clean of all bugs n shit ! its worth double the money in my opinion just to leave the risk behind ! as for you sayin about bio bizz n nute burn well i did say it happens but it sorts itself out after a week n in my expereience its no slower or anything so it saves pennys not havin to buy different soils !
i reckon were both in the same boat as in got money but never enough n cant afford to make a shit decision ! my fan n filter kit came off ebay! nothing wrong with it i just wish id got the next size up for my 1mx1mx1.8m tent ! 5inch would of been pukka even in summer !

i forgot to add, i use jiffy plugs before soil ! i leave them in the propogator for an extra day or 2(after leaves appear) then put them in ! maybe its better god knows ?
merry xmas bud n a smokin new year !

cheers joe but the john innes no1 (peat based) is sweet to start them off in, i have looked into it and i can do john innes no1 with bit of perlite to start them off in then a mix of allmix and john innes no1 with perlite for the second pot until a final pot of just allmix. Thats the plan but with the christmas relative visits to cram in over the next few days got to wait till day after boxing day to start germin the mutha f**kin widow - yeah baby!!!

Merry xmas - enjoy the tuti mate.

Right so christmas relative visits are over - till New Years day atleast, so its on with the grow and im pleased to say the BB is getting bigger by the day and she (hopefully a she - i know) has 2 new friends to keep her company, germinated 2 of the widow seeds and they both sprouted within 24hrs, ace.
I also finished sorting out the grow room - bought another bathroom ex.fan to pull air into the room so all that i need to do now is get my light in the right position and do some temp / humidity checks then as soon as the widows have a bit of growth - say in 2 1/2 weeks time so they are at the size the BB is now all 3 can go into the proper room.
A question i have for anyone is how tall does the plant need to be in order to take cuttings from safely.

Looking good man..:joint:
I think the proper time to take cuttings is when the plant is 8weeks old or more and about 24'' tall, but i've never cloned before, this is what Jorge Cervantes says so it must be good knowledge
You may be able to do it sooner but i wouldn't know...

cheers joe, i have been reading about taking cuttings and it seems the best advice is to flower your plants, pick the favourite for a new mum, harvest her - without cutting her down, just taking the buds off her and leaving some growth, branches and leaves etc. then revert her back to 18/6 for a few weeks before taking some cuttings.
my missus reckons we should just grow out our plants and see how it goes to start with - without messing about too much where as i keep reading about certain techniques (cloning, FIMming, topping, LST, scrog etc...the list is endless) and want to try them out - the cloning i really want to try even tho im a noob because i only have the 1 Big Bang and really want to keep her going.
perhaps the best thing to do is harvest then re-veg - make sure its worthe doing first. missus is always the voice of reason it seems!!

 atleast you can check tings out with your missus, my missus hant got a clue bout none of this man...apart from when i pass the blunt.. :mgreen:

anyway, i think its best to do a few grows naturally if you've never experienced a cannabis plant growing before, then once you've got some knowledge behind you, start doing a bit of topping and what not and experiment..
i think there are many ways you can clone, and re-generating a harvested plant is something i've never seen but i have read about, but you seen keen to do these tings man so good luck with whatever method you go with, hope it works out for ya man... :eyesmoke:

yep, trying to run before i can walk is not a good idea.
FIM'ing and topping is probably best left for now but the cloning is something i want to try cos it looks straight forward enough if the right rules are followed and i want to have more than just the one big bang (especially after looking at yours joe and i have the perfect little cabinet to do it in - i just need fit the propogator for it). i plan to veg for another 4 / 5 weeks (which will have been 7 / 8 weeks for the big bang) and then take a couple of cuttings of each plant before they switch to flowering.
speaking of the big bang she went a bit droopy today so i thought id transplant up to the next pot and sure enough there were roots all aroung the outside of the soil when i took it out. it is now in the same soil mix as the 2 ww's - 2 parts allmix, 2 parts perlite & 2 parts john innes no1. the 2 ww's are racing away aswell.

your not wrong about having the missus to bounce ideas off, its ace cos aswell as having good ideas herself she keeps my feet on the ground - if id had my way we'd have spent triple the money and have NFT tables, cooltubes, CO2 tanks and allsorts.

um i reckon lst is fine for a first or second time grower just remember its a longer veg time !(i only do 1 or 2bends)

topping, just make sure your about right where you cut. hell of a lot of stress plus the veg time is significantly longer. where you cut can also go dodgy !
i know good results can come out of it even if i do sound negative !

fim' i think is hard ! not seriously but a bit tricky n if you cock up it can take weeks to recover(my experience) same bad points near enough as topping.
good results can be achieved dispite my negativity !

basically mate try one at a time on one plant just incase. when i lst it takes about ten days longer i reckon(depending on amount of bends n when u start) dont b shy give it a try !:leaf:

cheers stinkg, the LST threads i have read look ace - and easy enough to try. Trouble is my missus keeps telling me we should just grow them out naturally. Might leave the experimenting to later grows.

the Big Bang is doing well as are the white widow seecdlings - will post some more pics later, just watching a film then ill go and do it.

DAY 22 Big Bang

DAY 5 White Widow (2 off)

Looking good man, the BB seems to droop in the last couple of hours before lights off (which is when pic was taken) or just after a water / feed, then perks up during the majority of the light on period (currently 18rhs).

i want to put them all under the 600w hps in grow room now but not sure if the little-uns could take it - what do you reckon? cos i know the BB would benefit hugely from more light.

also could i remove the lower burnt leaves on the BB?

the last set of pics are of my grow room - the large dia. ducting is attahed to the ex.fan which is mounted close to the ceiling. the smaller dia. ducting tube is attached to cone piece which is then attached to the larger transparent ducting tube which is then attached to a fan which is the same spec as the ex. fan. which as you can see in another pic has caron filter pads taped over its grill.

the final pic of my light/ballast/reflector - anyone else used this? if so, any good?

cheers and happy new year to all of you.

cheers joe, only difference between yours and mine is i got the 600w and i think your is the 400w? but are you saying that yours is the same make - sylvania grolux? i was a bit unsure with the bloke who sold it me claiming it was fine for veg and flower but after googling it it looked sound and now i have seen your results im even more optomistic.

the BB is now out growing the cabinet so into the grow room soon for all 3 of them - just doing my temp checks and trying to get it all sorted out with the timers for heater / intake fan etc. - as you can see my grow room is seperate from the house and in like an old coal shed so it is bloody cold outside and that cold air is being sucked into the room which means at the moment with lights on (early evening time) without any heater on the temps are only 17 degrees celsius and 30% humidity - so i need to play around a bit before the trio are going to be allowed into the party!

happy new year to you too matey.

Sweet - bloody chuffed now - hope i can achieve somewhere near your results joe, i will post some pics in a bit, thanks to the snow i cant get to work so its on with tweaking my grow room environment today, got to get some pics of the big bang during the middle of the lights on because all the ones i take in the evening are when she has started to droop a bit ready for lights off - she looks so much better in the day.

off to play and take some pics.
