Good luck man!
Try and find a 20 litre pot if you can, or a house bin with holes at the bottom or sumit..
Get her under that HPS!
Oh and thanks for promoting my thread.. :joint: ...the more the merrier..
The missus gave me 25 golden nuggets towards an ionizer/air purifier...call it what you want.. its bloody brilliant is what i keep calling it!
I found 25squid in my jeans, which have been hangin in my cupboard! spot on.. :blsmoke:
so, with those two amounts united as one i manged to make my way across to argooos and buy one! and i tell you, it was worth every penny, the smell was getting very bad and with that, so does my paranoia!
but all that worry has swooshed away since i turned that little beauty on..
aha, listen to me i sound like i'm trying to sell dem! :eyesmoke:
but it has done more than i thought it would do, just gotta find out how long a filter lasts...and in the instructions they recommend having it on 24hours!

:peace:

sorry i waffled on a bit on your thread man..

nah mate waffle away!! would you say the ioniser is better than the carbon filter or do you need to have both working for it be successful?

I needed something i could get quick and just turn it on and let it be.. the smell was very bad.. i should think even the postie could smell it through the door! i could, and i've been living with the smell. You just kinda of get used to it lingering around, but after a while it was getting worse until it was like getting smacked in the face whenever i got up and opened my bedroom door.. :eyesmoke:

It was bad.....................

I've got my carbon filter and ex.fan inside my tent, pulling air out of the tent and into the room, then i set up my ionizer inside the room so it filters the already filtered air, thus removing the smell even more..
I would recommend using both..
I was going to have it inside the tent with the plants but i thought it is best this way instead..
since i have set it up they have worked as a team together...(the fan and ionizer)...and i'm chuffed at the results..
when you go in the grow room it doesn't smell so bad as before but its the actual house that has no more smell lingering..its done my stress level wonders! :eyesmoke:

Right, nice one joe - did you mention before that you leave your tent open to let in fresh air from a window? Would that be part of the reason the room needs odor control aswell rather than the air from the extractor fan / filter being smelly? The reason i ask is im looking into getting the same fan / filter as you mate and i will be venting straight outside and since im on the ground floor im a little worried that the filter wont kill the smell. I also made a DIY carbon filter last night with some bits and pieces i nicked from work, ordered some activated carbon for like £5.75 off ebay so will prob just get the fan to start with but because my ducting is 6" im thinking about going for a bigger fan rather than getting the 4" and a connector piece to fit the two together.

I will photograph the filter and the plants later on - i have also powered up the HPS and fans in the grow room cos the BB is burning herself on the CFL's in the cabinet!! No excuses now, she has to be moved into her new home.

PS - your plants are looking so fooking sweet bruv.

Thanks man, :joint:
One is yellowing quite bad, but as its close to harvest i'm not too worried so far.. Looks like it will be finished earlier than i expected.. the girl beside her on the other hand looks like it will be a 10/11+ weeker man, :eyesmoke:
Yea i have a vent open in the day so that doesn't help... but at nights, she's all locked up tight and the smell still escapes..
I have been thinking the same ting man, i need to be able to have my fan connected straight to the filter, infact i popped down the hydro store today and had a look at a new fan.. i could spend all day in there!
but i'm not too sure about your odour control man, i mean you got time yet anyway if your BB turns out like mine, the smell wasn't bad until recently.. but the ionizer has solved that riddle, trust me, i know they aint cheap but they are effective..so far...
but i'm curious to know how your DIY one works out.. sorry i went the easy route but i honestly didn't have a choice, if yours works then i'll probably give it a go on my next grow..
Good to hear you got that baby under your HPS.. she is going to love it under there, just make sure the top don't burn cause she will surprise you.. :weed:

Cheers buddy, got a bin to put her in - 10 litres, drilled some holes in the bottom.

As you can see there is no longer the Big Bang in my cabinet - however she lives on in the form of 2 offspring which are looking good so far.

Pics as follows.

1. The new gang group photo.
2. Widow 1. 2.5 wks old.
3. Widow 2. 2.5 wks old.
4. Big Bang clones.
5. big Bang clone 1. 3 days old.
6. big bang clone 2. 3 days old.

Cant get back to the grow room tonight so will get pic of the main Big Bang (5 weeks old) in her new home tomo.

Cheers peeps.

any comments would be most welcome - oh and thanks for all your info joew and redeyejedi - will get round to sorting the buddy request tomo redeye mate.

yeah i know mate - cos of my BB seed probs and only having the one successful plant i wanted to try and keep her going so i got some clone gel and then cut of 2 lower branches, planted them into the hole in the soil which had some clone gel squirted in it and thats it, mist them 2 times a day - lovely.

will post some pics of the main BB tomo.

cheers.

good job on the clones mate knew ya had it in ya! i have taken my third set now got one mother in flower and kept 1 only words of advice i have differnt now is dont put the lights to close to these (i have air cooled reflectors) because the will grow so dense it becomes a little harder to take clones there super stalky and if you cut th branch right at the leaf set it wil grow back i nice set to clone shortly. i toped mine once at 3 weeks and found it split a gre nice but i just thinned 1 of them down good and wanted to se how some of that thicker stemy material clones from the tops.

first 2 pics Big Bang.
3rd pic DIY Filter.
4thg pic the 2 BB clones.
5th pic cabinet crew (2 x WW's, 2 x BB clones)
6th pic clone 1.
7th pic clone 2.
8th pic WW 1.
9th pic WW 2.

thanks bodyshop54 - i know i was reluctant to give it a try but im really glad i did now, the two BB clones are looking healthy at 7 days old and their growth tips have started to really grow out.
The WW's are looking sweet too at 20 days old.
The real star of this update tho is the Big Bang in the grow room - after just 3 days under the 600w HPS i am amazed at how much she has grown.
Also pictured is my new DIY carbon filter made almost entirely from parts un-wittingly donated by my employer, apart from £5.75 on a bag of activated carbon from ebay of course, not bad i reckon and the bathroom extraction fan is still pulling air through at an acceptable rate so it might just do the job. Obviously it has affected the temp slightly - 25 degrees celsius before filter - 28 degrees celsius after adding the filter. Have to wait and see if it works.
To combat my low RH i had a full bag of cat litter in the cupboard so i threw most of it into the large tray that im using as a makeshift table to put my plants on and then added water until about half of the litter was covered - i know this material absorbs water first and covers un odor second and therefore if i dont keeps the water topped up in the tray then the litter will suck more moisture out of the air and lower my RH rather than raise it.

Cheers peeps.

Well done EA... your clones look better than mine! I went wrong somewhere... lol..
Mine have rooted though, The stems look kinda bloated at the bottom and I have new growth!
As for my main plant, She's now been switched to 12/12 and Im sure she's a 3 Oz-er!
I had a strong skunky smell in my bedroom from early veg, But I was saving my carbon filter till now.. the smell has died down abit but thanks to you EA and Joe, Im also lookin into the Ionizer* (excuse the spelling) LOL

Cheers lads, the filter looks the part just hope it works tho joe. The two widows are going in the room tonight as they are 3 weeks old. I plan to veg all 3 (2 x ww 1 x bb) for another 2 weeks then flower. The big bang will have had nearly 8 weeks veg by then so should
be a beast!
Only worry i have is pot size. I got bb in a 10 litre and was hoping that would be big enough? If need be ill get some bigger pots but if i check on her regular do you think 10l would be ok?

cheers redeye, i have heard so many different comments regarding pot size - some say the bigger the better, some say 1 gallon for every foot of growth, some say you can grow a big plant in an average size pot as long as you tend to it regularly.

The 20 litre pots were my preference based on grow4joe's amazing results using this size and who am i to argue with those wicked pics - but then i had to transplant and couldn't get to the garden centre so with a 10L bin at home which i drilled holes in the bottom of. Since it looks huge to me i wondered if that would do if i kept on top of things you know? - i might veg for another 2 weeks in it and then see if any roots appear and if so she'll be moved up.

Sorry - eager the king of the multi post / shit i forgot to ask stuff apprentice!!

Its no good - was hoping the low cfm bathroom fan would just about work through my DIY filter but today with mild temps outside the room was 30 celsius - is this too hot? if so I need some help in choosing the best fan - 1.5m (5ft) x 0.9m (3ft) x 2m (6.5ft) sized room - 2.6m3 (97.5ft3).

and how far away from the plant should my 600w be?

RedEyeJedi UK

Well-Known Member
I work with a 400w and I know the best height for that is around 2 or 3 foot... so at a guess I would say around 3 or 4 foot for a 600w... I will try and get this verified for ya ! ;)

EA, I have looked all over the net for what I found when I first started growing but can't find it anywhere... it was just a basic diagram but gave you optimum height for all light wattages!
Anyway, from what Iv learned - if you have brilliant ventilation and/or a air cooled lamp you could get as close as 8-10 inches away from the plants...

I personally don't have the best ventilation so i keep mine 24 inches away (2 foot) all the time - if I was running a 600w myself I would be 36 inches away (3 Foot)

Thanks mate. I have the light at 2 ft at the minute and all seems to be ok - i took the filter off the fan and the temps went down by 4 degrees to 27 and since there isn't much smell for now i will keep it like this until i switch to 1/12 in 2 weeks time.
The widows are coming on a treat - i still haven't put them in the main room yet cos im waiting to get some bigger pots for them - i only have 5 litre pots and i want to transplant them into at least 10 litres for their final homes.
My clones have yellowing leaves which is apparently a good sign - means they are rooting i think, did yours do this redeye? because i have the cabinet i will keep one BB clone as a bonsai mum and i will flower the other but will experiment with it - LST, topping etc. I also plan to take 2 clones off each widow before i flower them so i can keep things rotating nicely.

With all this cloning i might have to build a bigger cabinet!!

PS. I will get my arse into gear and take soom pic tomo - one question regarding pics tho. I tried to upload some pics from a 10mp digital camera but they were too big (memory wise) to upload - so how do people upload their quality shots?
