Big Bang First grow

Huh??

Well-Known Member
I'll be keeping an eye on this one,Big Bang was my first grow as well.It is a good strain for a beginner, fem seeds,8 weeks, easy to clone, big harvests and it can tolerate quite a bit of nutes(and I was growing hydro!).
I think that you might have planted the beans too deep, they only need to be about 1-2 cm under the medium.Make sure you plant it with the root tip pointing down(assuming that you have already germinated them).

CHEERS stinkyg, course im gonna listen to ya mate - u got loads more exp than me (this is my first grow). Good advice on the pot size cheers, whats your soil, light, exhaust setup?
dont know if you read thru all my thread but i have been trying to start some seeds off for a while now - to start with i just germinated about 10 bagseed seeds and thru them in a pot alltogether (it was before i'd read any info!), then i put them on window sill in day / airing cupboard at night, they all started so i split them up and stuck em under a 600w hps in my grow room and one by one they popped off. May have been the soil i mixed or too close to the light.
Next attempt was the first 2 X GHS Big Bang - no joy under weak lights and in crap top soil.
To the present and the last 3 X Big Bang i started germinating 3 nights ago - one sprouted the other 2 still no show. If i get no more sprouts ill be well pissed off because i have done everything as GHS recommend.
thanks again stinkyg.
here is my seedling now.

cheers huh??

nah mate thats THE problem only 1 out of the last 3 has germinated so far - using GHS method of glass of water 12-24hrs then paper towel, i planted the one you see in pics last night (24hrs ago) - and out of the first 2 i did only 1 germinated and that didn't grow properly but may have been my fault. Now i got the perfect environment for me beans only 1 bloody sprouts!
I'm hoping the other 2 will still work but its the 4th night now - slightly worrying.
cheers

hey joe, yeah i know i'm being a tad impatient - just the first popped out in 24 hrs and is literally growing as you look at her, i thought peoples grow logs must have been over exaggerated showing so much seedling growth so quickly but with this little baby racing away the way she is i can belive it now.
more tomo.

right, the only grower was pushing thru her cling film lid this morning which is ace considering i only plante it 36 hrs ago. the other 2 seeds however look like they have white like fuzz on their ends - could this be the earl root tip rotting away?
has anyone else seen this before?

hello bud, eager apprentice is the right name eager very bloody eager lol
listen mate its nature n nature takes time !! ive had some seeds pop in 24 hours through the soil n others of the same ,done at the same time have taken 5 or 6 days !! be patient n you will be surprised. sometimes its the checking, pulling about that fecks things up !
the reason people use the glass method n then paper towel etc is the water softens the seeds coat n opens quicker n there done at the same time abouts ! ive figured that even if they do open with a week between the more recently opened catch up quick real quick ! most fuck ups start because of over worrying ie i think they need water just incase, they might need food !! my last mistake i think was over feeding because i jumped to a conclusion too quickly ! PATIENTS mate;-)

one question i do have for anyone is how many pot sizes do i want to transplant into - is it best to go from my 3.5" pot to the harvest pot (say 20L) or one in-between first?

its up to you eager apprentice, some will say a pot between the 2 but i myself go from tiny pot to final pot ! its about building roots thats all n like i said i dont n 1 reason is transplant stress !! its half of 1 half a dozen of the other !! do some of each if ya wants n see which is better !
less work, less worry, less stress thats my motto ! could be im a lazy mother fecker !lol superthrive is pretty god damn good for transplanting just go easy ! laterz:bigjoint:

They are so far man, thank f**k..

About the pots, I go from little pots... I think dey be 3'' pots.. to the permanent home.... 20litre pots.. but i'm downsizing when i get my new seeds so i can grow a few more.. :mrgeen:
Its just like stinkyG said, its all about building your roots and thats it man...

No worry's :joint:
I dont bother, 18/6 all the way through veg and and then 12/12 for flowering...:bigjoint:
some people like to do a 24 or 36 hour dark period before switching to 12/12 to kick start the flowering process.. but i've never tryed this.. although i was supposed to but i completely forgot!

update:
DAY 5 (since planted) DAY 7 (started germination).
Seedling looking good i reckon? what do you guys think?
any other attempts before this grew much, much slower so the proper type of light bulbs, soil etc. obviously is making a big difference.
the other 2 seeds are still showing nothing so have to just keep waiting - im just chuffed that i got one little baby to look after, i really forward to checking on the growth day by day, really hope i can keep her going (her - wishfull thinking i know, especially from GHS!!)
cheers joe - i just need to find some of the other threads i have read about starting off with 24hrs light then cutting it down.
Cheers for the 24 / 36 hr light off period before 12/12 to kick start - nice tip, will try to remember to do that myself.
any advice regarding when i should switch my plant from its current cabinet (under 63w cfl) and into my grow room (under 600w hps) would be appreciated.

Looking good man :joint::hump:
Its only going to get bigger and bigger
Have you got a fan blowing gently on your seedling? It will help to strengthen up the stem etc..
also, i would have that baby under that 600watt beast right damn now..
just make sure you don't burn your baby though....or your grow room.. actually how big is your grow room? 600watt HPS lights get very hot man, very hot indeed....especially in small places... i wanted to go with 600watt with my tent but the geezer said i would probably burn it down! so i think i'm going to go for a cooltube and a 600watt for the PW and BLZ grow... if i got the cash, if not then i'll just get a cooltube for my 400w..

cheers joe -
my room is 0.9m wide x 1.5m long x 2.1m high.
have had my 600w going and with the extraction fan on constant (positioned right above the reflector) the temps are 30c on average but humidity a bit low at 40%.
this was at about 0.75m away from the the bulb - i have a os.fan and will try blowing on the bulb to get lower and stay at 30c, then buy another small fan for blowing on the plants.
if i have any probs i will get a better ex.fan when i get a carbon filter - missus wants to see if we can get something flowering before we fork out on carbon filter / powerful fan. currently running bathroom ex.fan with nothing but passive intake vent.
as i mentioned before this is a really budget grow to start with (current costs for cabinet and grow room are £182.60 - not bad i reckon).
i will try some carbon filter pads (like you get for cat litter boxes - £2 each at local pet shop!) over the grill on my ex.fan first to see if that works, i know bloody cheapskate!!
thanks again joe.

No worrys man, :joint::mrgreen:
The carbon filter pads sound like a good idea man.. try it.. might work..
Sounds like you got tings going on good man.. I know you are doing a low budget grow but have you thought about getting another fan and using it for intake aswell?
I shouldn't think your intake vent lets much cool air in, or does it? :?
Your room sounds like it will be sound for a 600w man..
I done the same thing when mine were vegging, just used my EX fan as an intake for fresh cold air until they started flowering.. although they were smelling strong, even when they were in veg, but i've switched it round now and i can't smell a ting...

I think you will be fine with this one man.. :joint:

nah joe your right mate the 2" vent only lets in a bit of air - not enuff, i have 'aquired' some 4" vent ducting from work and i will be fitting that in the morning, to replace the 2" vent - tho might just add it and keep the other 2" vent - more fresh air the better right?. I will see how that affects things but will defo get another bathroom ex.fan to suck air in - my ex.fan was only 16 quid so might see if the next fan up at B&Q has a better cfm rating and if so (and not too much more dollar) will get it then swap the 2 fans over - using the better cfm fan for outake.
forgot to mention earlier mate that the cabinet the BB seedling in has the intake fan blowin on the seedling - my fan adaptor plug has adjustable voltage which is quality cos its basically a fan speed controller - had it blowin at 9v all day yesterday and got home to find the little girl at 45 degrees (angle not temps!!), turned the voltage down to 6v - no probs since.
Green House Seeds haven't exactly worked for me - only my newb opinion but only 2 sprouts from 5 aint good (especially when i screwed 1 of em up!) even if they were dirt cheap at 16 nicker - still pissed off and unlikely to buy their seeds again. Although a pure female with nice bud 3 months from now might convince me otherwise.
With my seedling taking off and requiring re-potting soon / bigger light i have had to re-invest - cant afford to run my 600w hps with just the 1 plant, so in the post tomo should be 5 white widow seeds (Seedman).
will post more tomo. cheers

Sounds good man, make sure you have some sort of filter over the vents untill you get your carbon pads though.. last ting you want is to bring in some unwanted friends to the party..
Yea come to think of it i remember you saying sabout you can controll your fan speeds etc..
I myself also will go for a different seed company and a different store to get dem..just to be on the safe side of tings.
2 out of 5 just dont cut it for me.

Damn..:blsmoke:some white widow you say..:hump:hhmmm, well up for seeing some of that man.. good choice
