I've done that too. It's sucks but it's like you need to do it once to learn. Stoner U! :-P.

Day 48 of 12/12

After the event of my incompetence Re: 'the 660nm incident'...These girls will be without that spectrum for the next 7 days (pushing into week 8)

They seem to be doing ok with just the white LED's at the moment....hard to compare when there is nothing to compare it with.

Yip...so on we ride....

Introducing 'Weedy' the resident 'Mantis. (Just a delight...turns out he is a quantum physics 'enthusiast' and is currently trying to locate the mother ship in order to get back to the planet 'Pyrafaceis X' !) :)

Sorry i cant get any of the whole enclosure...my camera isnt wide angle enough....

Awesome huh! 'Weedy' found his way into the enclosure sometime in the last 5 days....pretty sure he can morph through walls... :)

my work is apparently a breeding ground for Praying Mantii. I've considered taking some home for my grower friends, but they all think it's a terrible idea ... some people confuse good bugs with bad bugs.

Side note, I need more reading on SOG methods and recommendations. I have space for 12+ if I use your party cup technique, or I have room for 2x 3gal with only 38" to the top of my box(from the top of 3gal airpots), and with 1100+umols at 18" I think SOG might work better for me.

Seems to be the season for 'Mantis breeding down at the bottom of the world aswell... :) I guess they would eat more then a ladybug? not sure if they eat the same thingz?

You have a bit more vertical space.....maybe opt for a pot that is a bit taller with the same diameter/width as a party cup. I actually like my party cups as i like tinkering with lots of different plants and it gives me room to experiment with different training techniques and nutrient doses....not to mention that awesome canopy that is easy to create. :)

My party cup plants are about 20cm-25cm high. They wont get much bigger then that as the limitations of the cup. (plus i can LST them anyways) I use 510 gram cups (18 ounce) If you have space for 12+ use can always stagger the grow to have a harvest every week (or 2 or 3) then replace the pots/cups as you harvest. Alwayz busy in the garden. I love it. :)

I like the sound of 12 pots/cups at 12 inches. I like more plants to play with. Probably a bit more watering then your bigger pots. You are working with a Area 51 fixture yeah?

Yea, I got in on the pre-sale pricing on the last day. I'm 75% done with my box, I'll probably start a journal once there's something worth posting about.

Yes....New journals are great.....start it now! :)
My replacement part(fan) arrives today. I get to pop the tags on that bish tonight, pics to follow.

The journal thing I'm up in the air about, I'm tempted to not post anything until like week 5-6 of flowering, then do a full review. I am getting pretty excited about it, then I wok up this morning to no electricity. I don't want that happening in a month or two, or three... that would be not fun. If my beans don't show by Fri, I might just pop some bag seed and train the crap out of them.

Well you asked for it....actually you didnt.....but.... 'this is what you gettin' (Ticks and Leeches)

k so my 'supposed XPG panel' turned up today. Good and bad.....here goes.....

IMG_5544.jpgIMG_5540.jpg
Comes with a silicon backing

IMG_5543.jpgIMG_5542.jpg
Mounted on a nice copper based board. Thickness is 2mm.

IMG_5547.jpgIMG_5546.jpgIMG_5545.jpg
Silicon backing in place. It lines up perfectly with the heatsink..so no extra drilling was needed. Added a bit more thermal paste.

IMG_5548.jpg
Please dont look at my soldering... (damn now they are going to look at my soldering...) :-P

IMG_5549.jpgIMG_5552.jpg
Run for an hour...doesnt get as hot as my other floods.

IMG_5556.jpgIMG_5559.jpg
Reflector fits nicely over the top.

IMG_5553.jpg
So the bad part is...it is only drawing 26 watts at the wall and 0.2 amps? Supposed to be 45-48 watts....So i think they sent me the 30w XPE not the 50w XPG...havent talked to them yet

IMG_5560.jpg
'Wheres Weedy'? :) (Weedy is under the new flood...)

It is about as bright as my other 50w floods...so i guess the efficiency of the Crees is making up the brightness for the lower watts.

WEEDY FTW!!!! I guess SHe is getting some food from somewhere, eh?
Unfortunately I can't rep Weedy yet (gotta spread some around).

Yeah...i thought maybe he/she would change to green aswell....hope its not a omen that the plants will turn into that tan/beige.... :-?

Weedy is a she, and will not turn to green because she is adult. They get wings in their final molting.

What is the specs. of your driver?

 I don't think it's an omen.
I was actually just trying to find out what type of Mantis it is, but damn... there are a lot of different types!
Some really trippy ones, too (like the Orchid Mantis...)
There are some that will change colour, as well. But I don't think Weedy is one of those; however, I am the furthest thing from an entomologist ;)

How long is it anyway? It's kind of hard to tell from the pics.
