So the point is to say that this is a joke, that we should go on in life as we had and just treat the virus like the common flu? I think everyone was afraid of another 1918. This virus is not an offshoot of the flu but more closely related to the SARS virus, they pretty much agree it first resided in a bat. We seem to be pretty fortunate in Canada, it is hitting us lightly. Part of the reason is because, from what I can see where I live, that we are taking it seriously and are trying to limit the spread.
Is it worth shutting down the economy? Well, if we did not follow suit and had a big spike in cases the US would have shut out border. And we would have much of our imported food cut off from us. Other than that it would be rough on our medical staff, they end up getting infected, quarantining them for two weeks puts a strain on the system when we need them most. They HAVE to have their protective equipment to be able to treat the sick. I am glad Trump has sort of relented and we are getting a shipment of N95 masks. I am not sure what I would do if I was told to go into an isolation room with an infected patient without one.
