The Left, and their love child, the tax on income, is built upon class warfare. A regressive tax system really isn't their problem ... envy is. As many times that I've pointed out here in the forum that the FAIR Tax is NOT regressive, the guys like Med continue to rail against it and say that it is. The FAIR tax would only apply to purchases of new goods and services. Each person under a certain income level would get a prebate check to cover the taxes they would have to pay on basic necessities during the year. They can spend this money on anything they like ... including crack cocaine and booze if they want to. If a person buys a new Toyota, he/she pays the national sales tax. If a person buys a used Toyota, no tax other than state tax would be due.

I don't think the 5% is a hard number.... I can see where that figure could easily double.

Gas taxes go toward road construction and maintenance, and I'm pretty sure you're benefiting from that. Practically everything we pay taxes on comes back to us in benefits at some point.

I'll pay to have the roads paved myself, or get people in my community to work together to get it done.

Or perhaps a private company could do it and charge toll fees (like NY).

I don't see why you are such a bitch for government. Government doesn't produce anything, it's nothing more than a middle man. It's not the company that actually paves the roads, it contracts that job out. It's not the company that is going to provide health insurance (I think it's going to be UnitedHealth or Aetna or maybe Anthem, or maybe all 3).

Government doesn't produce anything except red tape and pointless paper pusher positions.

This is untrue. It's a matter of efficiency. It takes 1.50 bucks to return 1 buck. Not a good way to do things.....

Someone has to oversee these projects. We could hire CEOs at around 3-100 million bucks a year to oversee these projects and they could steal a few billion like the Bankers, Or pay the GS 1-15s to get-er-done.

Yeah, my gas-hog dodge hemi may see a few more miles next year, I've got a couple of 1,000 mile trips scheduled. Not too bad on the road though, 17-20 MPG, fully loaded down with 4-5 people.

good luck with that bullshit...the county would not pave my road which is 1 1/4 miles long and it would cost the 7 people that live on the road $1016. everybody refused.

That's cheap, 7112.00 for 1-1/4 miles of asphalt. Geeze, you guys should have jumped on it. Added a couple a hundred a year to your property taxes.

The reason why gas is the most expensive in Cali is because your dumb ass politicians tax it to death, and require special blends for use during the summer that adds on to the cost during the summer. So between taxes, and special blend requirements you end up with gas that is 20¢ more expensive than anywhere else.

If the auto manufacturers emulated Europe and went to 100% diesel (cleaner to gas despite pop misinformation), then refinery prices would drop drastically. Everyone would benefit. It's one of the very few things Europeans do which is cost effective.....

New diesel is, but before gas was cleaner than diesel (never mind that diesel is more efficient, and was more efficient.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but the disparity between the efficiency of gasoline and diesel is really amazing.
