Dirty and guzzlers, but a neat Idea. Turbo rotary's, a great Idea, two spinners making awesome power, but emissions are not good. How's 700HP out of 162 cubic inches, And a 15,000 RPM rev limiter?
Gas at $1.49 a gallon. =D

Oh yeah, emissions are so bad on Rotarys, that Mazda was able to pass current emissions standards on the RX-8.

Where do you want it in the head or body, I'd be glad to oblidge?.I can see you are not a car guy. I never said they were impossible, just more than a piston engine. Dirty in comparison, but they can be cleaned up with catylists and such. Awesome HP for CI though, eh?

Definitely great on HP for size though, you are right about that.
Isn't the estimate that they produce 2x the HP based on displacement than Piston driven engines.

Probably, although, you can hotrod the piston engine to upwards of 6,000 HP, Top Fuel, and I doubt they could ever make a rotary to hold up under that kind of HP. A 500 HP small block chevy hotrod motor is on the low end nowadays. My 62 ChevyII has 500HP and a new Caddy will keep up with it in the 1/4 and outrun it on top, 546HP for the caddy, what's the world coming to.

One can only wonder what kind of HP our vehicles would be getting if the Big 3 hadn't been forced to put a temporary stop to their horse power wars in the 70s.

I think the streetable HP had pretty topped out at that point. the only thing they knew how to make HP back in the 70's were cam profiles and compression. as for the rotary engine, you can make a bunch of HP, but they dont last very long. a rotary engine that is run hard won't last past the 50,000 miles.

Yeah, they didn't have the technology to make more HP and less Emissions at that time, so the HP had to go. Now that they have the technology to make 600 HP+ and breathable exhaust fumes, they are offering it up to those that can afford it. Still, HP=Money, always has.

how fast do you want to go? how much money you got?!?! I had 1970 dodge challenger w/440 six-pack and I put headers and bigger exhaust. so, it was probably 500 HP and it was barely streetable. if you didn't change the plugs every 2,000 miles they would foul out on you. but...it was soo much fun.

Hell yeah, My 70SS396 Elco ran 12.50s on juice and that was a fun ride. If I ever get this deuce finished, it should be in the 11s easy. I've taken it atound the block and the first into 2nd shift is awesome, pulls hard, I think with some chassis tweaking, it will easily pull the hoops. BTW, in 69, I went to a Dodge dealer and took out a, 6 mile on the odometer, 440 6pack charger, for a "test" drive,~LOL~, I doubt there was an 1/8th of an inch of tread left on those rear tires when I returned it 20 minutes later, it was a fun car.

I think the new generation of diesels will be the ticket. Volkswagen and Honda have some especially nice clean and 50 mpg cars out there to rub the hybrids' noses in the ground. I'm thinking of snatching one of the 09' VW Jetta's for my better half. Pretty damn sweet....

Yeah, I had a 71 El Camino SS, 454, 496 hp out of Detroit. 411 posi, and a turbo 400 auto trans.
About 6 miles to the gallon. Sweet car. Had some issues tho, I think maybe it was user related. And when I had to replace my M50's I backed of the pedal a tad.
What the hell, I was in high school, hauled a lot of hay for that car. $2500, 3 years old.

OPEC just made the biggest PRODUCTION CUT of oil in their history two days ago. Think they are trying to manipulate the markets? What if Exxon had tried to do this? What would be the public opinion?!
The hypocrisy is palpable. No need to increase domestic production when we have friends like OPEC looking out for U.S. National security, right???
