Im very interested in doing a DWC setup also in a tent. The only thing that really bothers me is how much work it would be to change the res especially when your plants are really big. How often do you change your water? exactley how do you do it? muscle a heavy load of water in a weak tote to the bathroom? hose? how do you balance your nutes and ppm so that they are consistently stable whenever you change your water? thanks for posting your journal, it was great to follow and learn
Thanks for stopping by and welcome. You have very valid questions that I wish I would have asked before designing my setup. As it is setup right now, it is a pain in the ass to change the res of the large tubs because I can't move the plants. I used to be able to remove the tote cover and use 5 gallon buckets to carry the water from the tote to the bath tub but I have to use a pump now. It is absolutely impossible to carry a full tote to empty it, so you have to use a pump or buckets. Or you could elevate it and put a drain spigot on the bottom for easy changes, but you will lose some vertical space.
As far as keeping track of the nutes, I change the res on the buckets every week and top off the water in between. I keep track of all the nutrient concentrations on an excel spreadsheet so I can track changes and adjust accordingly. A lot of DWC is a guessing game with the nutes since you don't know what is in the res as soon as the plant starts uptaking nutrients, so just remain consistent in the proportions you use when making adjustments to the reservoir between water changes. Not sure if this makes any sense but I'll try and explain it better if you need me to.
I learned a lot from this grow on space management and I am going to do things very differently next time. Firstly, I want to stay legal, so I am going to lower my plant count substantially. Then, I am going to go with smaller elevated reservoirs with drains, 1 plant in each, 3-4 plants in the tent total. I am going to setup a SCROG setup to keep the height consistent and maximize the yield off only a few plants. I am confident I can yield as much, if not more, using this method than the untrained method I'm using now. And it should be much easier to change out reservoirs and top off nutrient levels.
Ha what you can't drag that little thing out?
Haha, I could after draining it but all the weak ass plants that can't support their own weight will fall right on over. The wall is the only thing keeping them erect. I've already had to cut at least 1/2 of popcorn, undeveloped buds on the bottom that fell over and snapped the stem. Next go around, there will definitely be some training going on.
Thats what Im talkin bout bro!!! Fuckin awesome! Yeah you got that camera thing dialed in. Such an incredible job. Your hard work and patience is gonna make you a high ass grower! They all look so scrumptious.
Im in love with that Kings Kush! Where’d u get the genetics for that? Shit looks like its gonna have some serious bag appeal. The first KK pic looks all super amber and ready to go, not so much on the 2nd pic though. Grape Skittles!!! Schaweet, has it got some purp in it lineage? Really interested to find out where to get the same genetics as your KK.
Thanks man, glad you like. If only you could pop your head into the tent and take a whiff of the dankness. It almost knocks me over.
I've got mixed feelings about the Kings Kush. It is from Greenhouse seeds, ordered it from the attitude, a cross of grape ape and og kush. A winning combination in my book but I don't feel like the genetics are very strong/stable. I germinated 4 seeds, 2 never made it out of veg, 1 died of overnute, and this one has been a little runt compared to all the other strains going. I will be lucky to pull an oz off that plant but it should be dank as fuck. I've got one more seed left for next time but I am not going to waste my time if the smoke isn't dankalicious.
They all look pretty close to being done but the trics are still all clear/cloudy on all the buds. The Kings Kush is starting to turn but its only 6 weeks in and has too many pistils still out for me to think about harvesting her.
Here's a link to the KK:
