Ran across this pretty neat article from "American Handgunner" magazine. Note the grip. The picture is his wife in the 1940's. He salvaged a piece of plexiglass from a shot down nazi Storch aircraft and fashioned the grip for his 1911 and put her picture under it. Carried it all through out the war.

My great uncle "Duke" had one with a picture of his wife Yolanda on one side and the American flag on the other that he tried to pass on to me in 1971 when he wasn't doing very well, but my mom wasn't keen on the idea so my Grandpa ended up with it

He also tried to give me an 1896 broomhandle Mauser with the wood holster/stock, but again no from mom
