I want to give a HB to Melvin Van Peebles who was ahead of his time....
This is a scene from Watermelon Man. If you have never seen this movie run, don't walk down to the video store and get it.
Acidly dark (pun) comedy.....
I'll just set this up real quick...... this guy in the opening scene is basically a bigot and white, but pretty laissez faire about civil rights (current at the time of the filming), and actually he's funny in a droll sense and makes it his mission to tell every corny ethnic joke at work...... so he wakes up in the middle of the night and discovers....he has turned BLACK!! The wife (Estelle Parsons) is OVER THE TOP in this as well. Like I said an acidly dark comedy of the highest order and Peebles made this on a shoestring budget....fantastic!!! The whole dang movie is fantastic!
