I do a lot of thrift store shopping. Since I work nights and weekends, I have my days. It takes time, but you can get good deals. The church run stores are almost always cheaper than Goodwill, but they don't have the selection, and they are not open late when working folks would have to go. With Goodwill you have to be discriminating. Paying 5 bucks for a $46 Ex Officio shirt is a good deal. Paying 5 bucks for a $10 Walmart shirt, not so good. I've found 20 degree down bags for 10 bucks. You just have to put in the time and look.

I think you've hit the nail on the head Larry. Chances are, you're already earning a living wage, you're just using it wrong. Paying interest is the "I can't wait" tax levied on those with no self-control. Stop using debt and watch your effective income increase by about 30%. Stop having a cell phone so new you don't even know how to use it and suddenly food is more affordable. But of course, you aren't as cool. Rich, but not cool.

I bought an old belt with a hand engraved sterling silver buckle made by Newman's silver shop in Reno with a 14k gold applique in the shape of the state of Nevada and the word "Eutopia" for $1

the difference- choice..you choose it. not everyone wants to shop at goodwill or church stores..didn't you say you are a two income family? you look for that one cool cheap hip item..some have nothing but..walmart is cheaper all around for new items..cheaper than the used of goodwill.

Food water roof and basic health care. Anything else is just you being accustomed to things you dont need.

Thats where this whole living wage crap hits a brick wall. You want the dream to be part of the living wage, and it simply will never be.

You know whats cheaper than Walmart? Staying home and not buying any of it.

You need clothing and health neither of which is part of the USG calculation of $29k to survive.

Apparently those items are optional.

Clothing isn't expensive, its your taste in clothing that is expensive.

500 bucks and I would have nice new clothes all year long. Should have enough for a winter coat at the end of it, too.

You live in Oregon, right? What you said isn't what most Oregonians have decided are the basics.

Because they are cheap to run... Microwave dinner, maybe 7 to 8 mins at 900W... same shit takes 25 to 30 minutes in an oven that has been warmed for a few minutes first...

It's really just this simple: Make CEO pay no greater than 200% of the lowest paid employee.

Next thing you know, EVERYBODY is making a decent living. The sad part is that instead of being multi-billionaires, the rich would simply be multi-millionaires.

Is reducing salary differential a necessary objective? Or is salary differential a symptom of the real issues? Perhaps salary differences in the US would naturally fall in line if we met the objectives of excellent healthcare, education, environment, equality, productivity and standard of living for all?

If you watched the video you would remember the list with the two sides, which either makes it better or makes the problem worse
