in the US with a similar tax is Berkeley in California.

The beverage industry paid for advertising against the tax proposal,

saying the tax would be costly to consumers.

Multimillionaire Harold Honickman, who made his fortune in the soft drink bottling industry,

spent an estimated $1.7m (£1.2m) fighting the tax and said he would file a lawsuit

against the case.

In Philadelphia, more than 68% of adults and 41% of children are overweight or obese.

The council had already approved the measure in a previous vote,

and Thursday's 13-4 vote rubber-stamped the proposal.

Why are diet versions included? They are zero calories.

This takes away the 'penalty' of sugary and puts a dark spin on the beverage industry in general for no good reason.

Which lobby/masters do we have to thank for this?

Diet soda is actually worse for you than sugary soda. Aspartame can cause cancer plus I've seen a lot of fat people who drink a lot of diet soda when if they really gave a shit about health they would drink water and not eat at McDonald's. Lol

Aspartame 'can' but they don't really know for sure..usually when they do these experiments they shoot up the animals thousands of times the amount you'd ever be exposed to in our lives.

In that case, we would need a frying pan tax..frying food 'can' cause cancer..hot dog tax..nitrates 'can' cause cancer..tuna fish 'can' contain mercury which 'can' cause cancer etc.

I'm still going with LOBBY FAIL continuing to control 'we the people'. Here's where GOP gets into trouble calling it government intervention, when it really is special interest.

Where does the soda tax go? To the schools? Like state lottery?:lol:

Washington has to stop being 'for sale', to the benefit of corporations; detriment of 'we the people'.

I can see a time where you'll step on the scale everywhere and your BMI will calculate your 'fat as fuck tax' and charge you accordingly..you heard it here first, folks!

Yeah, just a classic taxation without representation a bit like tobacco even though the #1 killer is heart disease yet we don't unjustly tax McDonald's.

I wouldn't be surprised if somehow this soda tax ends up in the pockets of the health industry..like they don't charge enough already..but this tax..donuts to dollars is going to line someone's pockets that don't necessarily need.
