sharing my modified subcool super soil recipe

I`m fairly new to this site. But I`m pretty sure this ^^ is the type of general knowledge, "google it yourself" kinda question that pisses of the senior members. Not trying to bust your balls shvanz. Just sayin I googled it and got 3 answers in less than 30 seconds. Between 30 and 35 pounds...depending on who is shipping it.

LOL :D

Thanks bro made my day haha

Peace!

Wow, really? It must be the Roots Organics "707". That is 3 c.f. Description says less perlite and pumice, so greater water holding capacity. I would be careful with that.

The Roots Organics "natural & organic" is the version used in the recipe on page 1 of this thread. Unless I`m mistaken, the biggest bag available is 1.5 c.f.

I like a loose, easy drain soil myself. I feel it lets the roots grow and breathe better. I may have to water more often, but I never worry about soggy water logged roots. It all just comes down to personal preference, and what`s available. Good luck either way bro. Keep us posted on how it goes.

heres a couple of pics of phantom cookies (phantom = gdp x cherry pie.. and the cookies is: bay 11 x platinum cookies). this strain was popped from seed that i bought from the GDP collective in the bay area. it is my new favorite strain. it retains the smell of phantom, taste almost like phantom but with a touch of the og/sour from platinum and a little more sweetness from the bay 11 and cherry pie (ive had all these strains individually so i know what traits they carry). it yields better than blue dream (which eveyrone knows is a high yield) and is almost all bud with very little leaves. frosty as all hell and rock hard dense as can be. the high is pretty clear, it can get intense on heavy use but its great daytime smoke. also useful for evening smoke, i reserve something else for right before bed though. i never thought i'd find a strain i liked more than kens GDP.. but this one is right there with it.

heres some first round cut outdoor of girls scout cookie s1. it was grown with just hose water in the ground, where i dump my old soil.

to answer some questions that were on the past few pages:

i am still using rice hulls (for silica and also better drainage). neem also, and since using neem ive noticed it handles everything gone wrong in the garden. i had some mold/fungus growth on the bottom of the cups and on the soil. hit it with neem and sprinkled some neem around the base on the water saucer.. gone within a week. i had some mushroom spores in my bagged soil that started growing on the vegging plants. neem killed em. fungus gnats i do see 1 or 2 here and there. but the neem keeps them WAY under control. i had some larvae (maybe thrips?) on the bottom of some leaves in veg, i gave the plants neem as a top dressing and sprayed the leaves with azamax, one time.. they are gone now.

i did want to note to anyone using bottled silica to be careful because they tend to be high in salt content and can cause ph issues and lockout issues if used too frequently. i'd just use rice hulls. they are cheaper and work just as well.

i never ph my water.. ever, not even in my ez cloner. my tap water is hard too. ph ranges from 8.5 to 9. and over 200ppm

i dont use any bottled nutrients anymore. straight tap water all through flower.. its easier. i dont have as much time in my schedule so i did it for convenience at first, but results are still great so ill stick with it.

soil mix is final, no reason to change it anymore, its perfect for me. i just wish i didnt have to mix it haha.

here is the final soil mix:

FLOWERING SOIL RECIPE
(cook moist soil in covered garbage can for 1 month minimum)

  • 2 large bags - roots natural and organic soil large bag (1.5)
  • 1.5 cu - EB Earth Worm Castings
  • 16 red cups (about 1kg) – organic rice hulls
  • 420g fish bone meal (down to earth 3-16-0)
  • 420g bat guano (happy frog 0-5-0)
  • 420g blood meal (down to earth 12-0-0)
  • 100g neem seed meal (down to earth)
  • 80g potassium sulfate (0-0-50)

  • 200g ancient forest alaska humus (general organics)
  • 200g xtreme mycorrhizal granules
  • 200g azomite

  • 100g sea kelp (algamin 1-0-2)
  • 70g dolomite lime (30% cal 3% mg or 75/12)
  • 50g alfalfa meal (down to earth 2.5-1-1)

  • 20g humic acid powder (down to earth)
  • 8g Epsom salt

then i usually put aprox 8 tablespoons of neem as a top dressing when i move them into flower, mostly for gnat prevention. doesnt have to be exact, just a dusting across the top layer.

oh and also i did want to note its important to not use pot size too small if you want to maximize your results and the soil performance. i think i use 10gal pots, its been so long since i bought them. basically what subcool recommended in his mix is what i use (i think it was #7 nursery pots which were 10gal pots)

i think i am going to experiment with removing some additives for simplicity purposes to see if i can get by with less without losing anything. ill let you know how that goes.

So almost finished up, getting close to the end. These are two different plants one in 15g and veg'd for a few weeks after final transplant before transition, think it had just over two weeks under nets before flowers started showing and it was transplant the same time it was put under nets, other one was put in 7g smart pot, was maybe two weeks after transplant started flowering but it was going from 1g pot to 7g and it was maybe 2ft tall so not very big to start. The big one got bottle once a week then but just plain tap other watering, I did hit with a dose of pk13/14 at transition but it clearly did not like and had to hit with cal/mg right after but that was it for smaller one.

This round I decided to put soil mix on only the bottom 25 percent of the pot if not less because I didn't have time to mix a new batch. Then just roots original as filler. I'm giving them 10ml liquid karma and a tablespoon of molasses once a week starting with day 1 of flower. So far growth is explosive and bud sites are everywhere and developed very early. I'm also using a screen for a scrog method. Things looking very promising. Running cherry pie, Casey Jones, super sour haze, and Kens granddaddy. All clone only cuts.

How did anyone else's results turn out?

here's a pic day 23 of flower with the scrog (screen of green). lots of bud sites. wish i had tried scrog sooner. expecting a great yield. this is a 4ft by 4ft screen setup. 4 plants under a 1k

Your original recipe says 15lbs... Is it the same as then or more? Double? Just need to know. You're my go-to guy for this...

just a rough estimate i'd say its about the same. worm castings are compatible enough to where you wont hurt or change much if you go more or less. i'd say the 15lb bag you have is fine.

heres the 'chopped version' ive ran past 2 times. its a smaller batch cuz im using less in each pot. i only run a 1 light personal medical grow anyway so i dont need a lot:

1 large bag - roots natural and organic soil large bag (1.5)
half of 1.5 cu - EB Earth Worm Castings
8 red cups – organic rice hulls
200g fish bone meal (down to earth 3-16-0)
200g bat guano (happy frog 0-5-0)
200g blood meal (down to earth 12-0-0)
50g neem seed meal (down to earth)
40g potassium sulfate (0-0-50)
100g azomite

since i have a lot of liquid karma and molasses already ive been giving them a tablespoon of each in a gallon per plant once a week (day 1 day 7 day 14 so on. through either day 49, then chop on day 70). its not necessary though, but if you have it and want to do it, buds seem stickier earlier in flower (probably the molasses), and the budsites started developing and showing much earlier in flower. this could be due to the K in molasses, or the liquid karma increasing the uptake. or both.

but with this mix i just put the mix on like the bottom 25% at the most of the pot. then fill the rest with just plan roots original. i do it this way cuz its easier, trying to cut down on costs without affecting quality negatively. main reason is to make it easier to mix a batch. buds are killer.

this thread was super fun to read. Sidewing is my new hero! I'm kindof new to this site. years ago i posted a few times on here and my computer kept telling me every time i went to this site i was in danger.. bs virus thing i don't know?

anyways i'm not new to growing... been around a few years, but never attempted a super soil. I'm making the plunge after reading this tread. There are so many different recipes out there, but for the most part no one posts results other than some of the big names(subcool, rev, etc..) and for some reason I see those results as partial advertisements for the soil/products they own or endorse.

So for the amazing bud porn Sidewing has produced i'm sold. forgive me if you mentioned this already I might have missed it.

Two questions. The extreme mycorrhizal granulas... do you get this one
[h=3]Mykos Granular 2.2 lb? --[/h]my scale is much bigger than yours(new laws in washington state)

Also I can't seem to find the numbers you have from your dolomite lime. What brand do you use? It is not expensive so i'm not too worried but I don't want to buy the cheap stuff from say home depot if there is a better alternative from an organic supplier for only a few dollars more.

Thank you so much for the amazing info.

and just for fun... its crazy you developed these amazing results and just finally realized the beauty of the scrog. my current medical grow has always been rather small so scrog has been the only way to go in my opinion... i make little scrog cubes for my plants so they are easy to move if i need. And since I have been using liquid nutes throughout the veg and grow cycle i flush for the last 2 weeks... sometimes 3. here are some of my results

6-28-12_06.jpg
my first small scrog

01-16-13_04.jpg
second scrog.. my cubes that were much easier to move
This is Raskal's OG... 3 cycles in a row of pure beauty. best plant i've grown. I had to move and my friends failed me killing all of her clones:(

Any lime for gardening should be fine, I just got mine from the hydro store locally because I didn't want to order it and pay a ton for shipping. It's all I could find. Yes that xtreme looks right..

I run the chopped version I just posted and results are just as good so I recommend this one to save money. Only thing is some strains are really nitrogen hungry so they yellow a week or 2 earlier than ideal. It's not that big of a deal buds aren't lacking any. The only strain this happens with is Casey Jones. I'll post some pics real soon to show what I mean.

I was just in the L.A. area and the only collective on weed maps that looked quality with clones was closed Sunday so I couldn't get any strains. They had all the ogs but I wouldn't know where to begin. Xxx og sounds good being bubba, master and og. My buddy says Diablo is good. I don't go often cuz it's a good 5 to 6 hour drive. San Jose is only 2 and a half.
