Strange Phenomena

So this Lambsbread bud isn't nicest looking or smelling bud, but I've noticed something strange about it. When I open the jar, and dig around a little in the buds, this strange smoke/mist rises. I first though it might be pollen, dust, some kind of broken down plant material but I've checked many times now and it keeps releasing this strange, visible gas with a light white hue. Does anybody know what/why this is?

Honestly, sounds like mold.

Doesn't smell moldy... very little if any moisture..

My first guess was mold as well. Usually a sure sign when you see a puff of white while trimming.

That's why it could be puffing about; little moisture so the spores take flight.

thats how i check for mold. under strong white light i break a bud apart which i suspect may be moldy and just watch if white smoke is coming out of it. mold. dont smoke.

Dry mold doesn’t smell so much. The powdery reaction happens when it’s dry, as others have said. Certainly looks like it could have some mold.

What does moldy bud do to you if you smoke it?

From what I’ve read, it varies. It can be nothing, or you can get a pretty nasty infection or bronchitis. Anecdotally, I may have grown a few outdoor plants several years ago and smoked a couple jars of botrytis ridden bud and didn’t get any severe issues. Molds and fungus vary too though - aspergillis is nasty, botrytis not so much. It could be one of many things. Knowing what I know, I’d not risk it again.

Edit - the brownish bud around that stem (below the jar label) looks like botrytis-mold. It’s got that familiar brownish-purple tint.

Depends different for each person I smoked a ton of mold an who knows what else in the 70s My lungs are nice an clear on last check up but i also have never smoked tobacco at age 64. I wouldn't touch what your showing with a 10 ft pole these days.

Put it back where you found it. Or, or... there might be a genie in the jar!
